A New AMEX Centurion Lounge, Denver will open in 2019. The new Centurion Lounge in the Mile High City will bring the total number of AMEX Centurion Lounges to 11 by the time it opens, since the AMEX Centurion Lounge NYC JFK will open in early 2019. Denver may not instantly spring to mind when thinking of the busiest airports in the U.S., and yet it's the 5th largest airport and sees 61 million passengers annually, according to the AMEX press release.
The Centurion Lounge Denver will feature views of the tarmac and have these amenities:
- Shower suites
- Complimentary chef-curated food
- Complimentary wine and cocktails
- High speed WiFi
- Noise-buffered workspaces
- A family room
I'm just glad that the new Denver Centurion Lounge will be over 14,000 square feet, larger than all but the new JFK Centurion Lounge (slated to be 15,000 square feet), because existing Centurion Lounges are chronically crowded. Last year on March 30, 2017, AMEX instituted a Centurion Lounge access policy limiting AMEX Platinum members to 2 family members, which didn't do much to ease space constraints, and then on October 2, 2017, limited Centurion Lounge access to AMEX Platinum and AMEX Centurion members only, eliminating the ability of other AMEX cardholders to buy a day pass. Perhaps AMEX is finally getting the message that their lounges are too small given cardholder demand.
This contrasts with the huge amount of space at the Delta Sky Club San Francisco, and even the busy but still spacious Delta Sky Club Seattle, which AMEX Platinum and Centurion cardholders can also access, but only if they also hold same day Delta boarding passes.
For now, I still have my AMEX Business Platinum, which pays for itself with the $200 in airline credits (thanks to being able to buy Delta gift cards that are used for tickets, see AMEX Platinum Airline Credit: How to Get Delta Gift Cards Reimbursed) and various AMEX Offers and Membership Rewards bonus points from referrals, but if it didn't already pay for itself, I likely wouldn't keep it on account of the Centurion Lounges–they're just too crowded to be pleasant, and we generally have access to another lounge anyway for international business or first class, which is the bulk of our travel.
