Tur in West Portal, San Francisco is the recently opened sister restaurant of Khao Tiew, the best Thai restaurant in West Portal and one of the best in San Francisco.

Tur Location and Hours
Tur is at 1 West Portal, at the corner of West Portal and Ulloa Street, right by the West Portal Station on Muni lines L, M, and K. That makes it an easy 13-minute Muni ride from downtown San Francisco. Since Tur only serves breakfast and brunch, it's open Wednesdays-Mondays from 8am to 2pm, closed on Tuesdays.
There are no advance reservations on weekends, but it is possible via Yelp to reserve earlier dining times such as 8am, 8:30am, and 9am on weekdays.
The restaurant's whimsical turtle logo, airy interior, shells, and canoe paddles on the wall would have been right at home in Hawaii.

Tur Menu and Food
Tur has an eclectic menu of Asian and Asian-fusion comfort food, from soft-shell crab eggs benedict and Japanese fried chicken with waffle to Thai-style congee and Shokupan French Toast.

I loved that there was fresh squeezed orange juice available, which was some of the better fresh squeezed juice I've had recently.

It was hard to decide, but I eventually settled on the Kai Moo, with soft scrambled egg and five-spice slow-cooked pork belly char siu with whipped feta, pickled shallots, and chili oil atop rustic toast. This was fantastic, even if I don't usually order pork belly due to how fatty it is. The pickled shallots and tang of the feta contrasted nicely with the richness of the pork.

My husband prefers sweet breakfasts; he'd wanted to order the Passion Fruit and Mango Sticky Rice French Toast, but it was already sold out at 12:30pm, so I recommend an earlier dining time if you're hoping to order it. Instead, he ordered the Honeycomb French Toast, which I thought was too sweet, with unappealing, overly hard candied honeycomb, most of which we left on the plate. It would have been better with tarter accompaniments, such as much more pomegranate and perhaps lemon curd, as well as more pistachio.

The Verdict
I really liked the airy interior of Tur, the fresh squeezed orange juice, and the Kai Moo, but I can't recommend the Honeycomb French Toast. If we visit again, I'll only order savory dishes.
