100K Aer Lingus Visa Bonus Offer

Are These 100K Offers Worth It?

To earn the full 100,000 bonus Avios on any of these cards you'll have to spend $20,000 within the first year. That's all well and good if you have have high spend anyway, especially if you often purchase British Airways, Iberia, Aer Lingus or Open Skies business class tickets, since those will earn you 3X.

But if your credit card spend is more modest, it may not be worth it to earn the full 100K or even the 75K bonus, as you may be able to earn more total miles and points either through meeting minimum spend on other credit cards or leveraging 3X-5X in category spend bonuses. Still, 50,000 Avios for $3000 spend isn't bad if you've already earned bonuses on other prime Chase cards, such as the Chase Sapphire Reserve and Ink Business Preferred or Ink Cash.

The $95 annual fee isn't waived the first year, so you're effectively buying 50,000 Avios for less than a fifth of a cent per Avios ($0.0019). That's a great deal for the first year, although it's much harder to make the case to keep the card in subsequent years, with no further bonus, especially since if you have the Chase Sapphire Reserve you could be earning 3X Ultimate Rewards points on all flights (not just British Airways, Iberia and Aer Lingus flights) and transfer those points 1:1 to Avios.

FAQ

Are the British Airways, Iberia or Aer Lingus Cards Subject to Chase 5/24?

No; none of them are subject to Chase 5/24. But you won't be eligible for the British Airways Visa signup bonus if you previously earned a bonus for the card within the past 24 months (since the Iberia and Aer Lingus cards are new, everyone's a new cardholder for them).

Can I Apply for All 3 Cards?

Chase generally approves maximum 2 personal credit cards in a month, so while there are sometimes exceptions via reconsideration, I don't recommend trying to apply for all three in the same day.

When Does the Signup Bonus Post?

Per the terms, allow 6-8 weeks after meeting the minimum spend for the bonus Avios to post to your account.

What If I Just Signed Up for the Iberia Visa with the 75K Bonus? Can I Get Matched to the 100K Bonus?

You may be able to; send a secure message to Chase and ask to be matched to the new offer. Keep in mind that you'll need to spend $20,000 on the card to earn the full 100,000 bonus Avios.

Can You Combine Avios Earned by British Airways, Iberia and Aer Lingus Cards?

Yes, you can; go to the BA Combine Avios page. Note that your account details, including address, must match. You also cannot transfer Avios from Iberia unless your Iberia account is at least 90 days old and you've earned at least 1 Avios in it (you can transfer AMEX Membership Rewards or Chase Ultimate Rewards points into it, if you don't have a flight to credit to it). You also cannot move Iberia Avios directly to your British Airways Executive Club account if you have a British Airways Household account. Instead, move your Iberia Avios to avios.com, and from there to your BA Executive Club account.

What Can I Do With 50K-100K Avios?

Avios has a distance based chart, so first class and business class on long flights tends to be expensive compared to using American AAdvantage or Alaska Mileage Plan. Also note the high fuel surcharges on British Airways flights, and high APD (Air Passenger Duty) on first class and business class passengers arriving at or departing from London.

Avios are best used on oneworld partners, such as intra-Asia flights on Cathay Pacific or JAL, although some Iberia redemptions can be good value too–see British Airways Avios Award: 8-11 Cents per Point
