Review: Swiss Business Class Lounge Zurich

Review: Swiss Business Class Lounge Zurich, E Gates

.

We reviewed the SWISS Business Class Lounge by Zurich's E Gates some years ago, but had occasion to revisit it on a SWISS flight from Zurich to Boston (review forthcoming). On the positive front, it was less busy than when we previously visited. On the other hand, we were less impressed by the food this time.

SWISS Business Class Lounge Zurich Location, Access and Hours

The SWISS Business Class Lounge by the E gates (E36 and E37 are closest to it, although the lounge is on the second floor) serves passengers on long haul flights, such as those to the U.S.

The Swiss Business Class Lounge is open daily 6am-10pm, and these passengers have access (with a same day boarding pass):

  • Lufthansa Miles & More Senators and HON Circle elite frequent flyers
  • Swiss Business Class and First Class passengers
  • Lufthansa Business Class and First Class passengers
  • Other Star Alliance Business and First Class passengers
  • Star Alliance Gold elites
  • Star Alliance Business Class passengers

SWISS Business Class Lounge Zurich Amenities

Note that to obtain WiFi access, you'll need to scan your boarding pass at a machine, then print out a WiFi password. I couldn't be bothered, I just used my own WiFi. There are several desks to work at, which I took advantage of, although there's no door to these areas, unlike, say, the Lufthansa First Class Terminal.

In the back of the lounge there's a quiet area with loungers that could suffice for a doze or quick nap. There are also shower rooms for those needing to refresh, although since I'd just come from the Hyatt Regency Zurich Airport The Circle, I didn't need one this time.

One of the things I do enjoy about this lounge is the great natural light, from the large windows.

As seen through the window and in the photo below, a unique aspect of this lounge is the outdoor terrace. When open (it's closed during inclement weather) that can be a way of getting a bit more privacy for a phone call, or for plane spotting, with its great views of the tarmac.

SWISS Business Class Lounge Zurich Dining

Previously, I remember enjoying a delicious savory pumpkin strudel, along with crispy banana fritters and some farmer's cheese with raisins for dessert. Ah, those were the days. This time, the food offerings were quite sad.

Sure, there was the usual salad bar, which was okay, but not as good as the university residential dining halls I've tried during our college visits.

The hot menu sounded okay, if not exciting:

The dishes were either close to empty (the rigatoni), picked over (tandoori chicken), or unappetizing (plant based stew):

There are ample wine and alcohol choices, although I didn't partake.

The cold buffet was a bit schizophrenic: hummus, olive spread, corn chips, watermelon, and chocolate mousse.

The best I can say for the food is that the watermelon was good.

There's also Movepick ice cream, which again, is fine, but in my view, not as good as the ice cream we buy at our local Whole Foods.

The Verdict

The SWISS Business Class Lounge is still very nice in terms of its seating areas, availability of shower rooms, and even an outdoor deck, but the food, at least on this visit, is considerably worse compared to several years ago.
