Anna, Zurich Restaurant Review

Restaurant Anna, Zurich Review

.

Restaurant ANNA in Zurich is one of the best places to enjoy elevated Italian and Mediterranean cuisine in Switzerland's largest city.

Restaurant ANNA Location and Hours

Restaurant ANNA is located at Anna-Heer-Strasse 2 in a residential area of Zurich. From central Zurich, for example Zurich HB train station, take the 51 tram towards Seebach 7 stops to
Hirschwiesenstrasse and walk 5 minutes to the restaurant; it's only 16 minutes door to door this way via public transit, or a mere 6 minutes by car.

The restaurant is open for dinner Tuesdays-Saturdays from 6:30-11:30pm, and for lunch Wednesdays-Fridays 11:30am-2pm. Restaurant ANNA is closed on Sundays and Mondays.

There's al fresco seating in season, but even dining indoors was lovely, given the high ceilings and ample light in the dining room.

Restaurant ANNA Lunch Menu and Food

Restaurant ANNA serves a 3-course menu for lunch for CHF 59, and for dinner, either a 4-course menu for CHF 140 or a 5-course menu for CHF 165, in all cases with the option to add a course of the restaurant's Ravioli del Plin, a guest favorite, for an additional CHF 25. An a la carte menu is also available, which is what I chose.

This was the a la carte menu during my late summer visit:

The meal started with complimentary homemade bread and basil butter, which was so good, it would have been easy to fill up on.

I made sure to order the restaurant's signature dish, the Ravioli del Plin (plin refers to the way the pasta is pinched to seal it), a Piedmontese dish with a rich filling of veal braised in Marsala wine. The dish is finished with an ethereal parmesan foam, fresh shaved parmesan, and fresh marjoram. Superb.

For my second course, I opted for the Seehecht “Glacier 51” which turned out to be Glacier 51 Toothfish, or Chilean Sea Bass. While the portion was a bit on the small side, the presentation and taste was impeccable, and nicely complemented with an herbs, fennel, and a creamy sauce with salmon roe and fresh peas.

The Verdict

Both the Ravioli del Plin and the Chilean Sea Bass were excellent, and with the fresh bread, made for a very satisfying (but not overly heavy) lunch. I liked the light, airy feel of the space during the day and that it wasn't overly crowded, especially since I came for an early lunch. Service was superb. Highly recommended for either a business or leisure lunch or dinner in Zurich.
