Hyatt Visa: 2 Free Nights, $50 Statement Credit and 5000 Bonus Points

Hyatt Visa: 2 Free Nights, $50 Statement Credit and 5000 Bonus Points

The Hyatt Visa offers 2 free nights at any Hyatt (including Park Hyatts), and for awhile there's been an offer when booking a Hyatt property online that gives you a $50 statement credit. But the above-linked offer also gives you 5000 bonus Hyatt Gold Passport points when you add an authorized user to your account, so I've updated the Best Travel Credit Cards page to reflect this.

Here are the details, followed by a FAQ, based on the questions I'm often asked by readers.

  • 2 award nights at any Hyatt worldwide after spending $1000 on the card within the first 3 months
  • $50 statement credit after your first purchase
  • 5000 bonus Hyatt Gold Passport points when you add an authorized user to your account and make a purchase within the first 3 months as a cardmember
  • Receive 1 Free Night each year on your anniversary in any Category 1-4 Hyatt
  • Hyatt Platinum status as long as you're a cardholder, including 15% point bonus on eligible spend, expedited check-in, dedicated Platinum reservation line
  • No foreign transaction fees
  • 3 Hyatt points per $1
  • 2 Hyatt points per $1 spent at restaurants, on airline tickets purchased directly with the airline and at car rental agencies.
  • 1 Hyatt Gold Passport point for every $1 spent on other spend
  • No fee the first year; thereafter, $75 annual fee

FAQ

Am I Eligible if I Previously Had the Hyatt Visa?

Yes, if you 1) don't currently have the card and 2) haven't received a new cardmember bonus for this card within the past 24 months. Note that this is different from the date of application, since the bonus posts after you meet minimum spend.

I Just Recently Got the Hyatt Visa Under the Old Offer, Without the 5000 Bonus Points; Will Chase Match Me?

It's worth asking, by sending a secure message. Chase has often been good about matching applicants to the better offer, as long as their application was within the past 90 days, even though there's no hard and fast guarantee.

When Will I Receive the Voucher for the 2 Free Nights at Any Hyatt in the World?

After meeting the $1000 minimum spend the Hyatt e-certificates are usually deposited a few days to a week later in your account.

How Long Are the 2 Hyatt Free Night Certificates Valid for?

1 year from date of issue–make sure to check the expiration date, since the free night certificates must be used by that date. If you don't have a high value use for them sometime in the next year, such as redeeming them for a Park Hyatt stay, you may want to postpone your application for the Hyatt Visa.

How Do I Redeem the Free Night Certificates?

You can redeem them online, as long as you select 1 night at a time. So for a two night stay, say from February 22-24, first select February 22-23 and redeem a free night cert, then February 23-24. Or you can call Hyatt Gold Passport for assistance.

Can Diamond Suite Upgrades Be Applied to the Free Nights?

No, Diamond Suite Upgrades cannot be applied to the free nights. You could, however, extend your stay with paid nights or Points + Cash rates and apply a DSU to those nights.

Can Virtuoso Benefits Be Applied to the Free Nights?

No, Virtuoso benefits can only be applied to paid reservations. Free night certificates and Points + Cash rates are NOT eligible. Examples of Hyatt hotels that TravelSort Clients can reserve with Virtuoso benefits include:

Select other Grand Hyatt and Hyatt Regency properties are also Virtuoso members.

Where Should I Redeem My 2 Free Nights?

My top pick would be the Park Hyatt Maldives, especially if you enjoy diving and snorkeling. If visiting the Maldives, I recommend combining this with a visit to Four Seasons Landaa Giraavaru, which is my absolute favorite Maldives luxury resort to date. Any Downsides to Be Aware of with Hyatt?

Hyatt has fewer hotels than the other major chains, which means that even many Hyatt fans end up also staying at other non-Hyatt hotels. You could use Starwood, Hilton or Marriott as a backup chain. Or, if you prefer high end hotels, which generally aren't good value points redemptions anyway, consider becoming a TravelSort Client so that we can provide special perks and amenities thanks to our Four Seasons Preferred Partner, Peninsula Hotels PenClub, Starwood Luxury Privileges, Ritz-Carlton STAR, Mandarin Oriental FAN, and Virtuoso affiliations.
