Qatar's QSuite Business Class Has Good Award Space on Its New LAX-Doha and Doha-LAX nonstops, starting February 2, 2019. This is good news for travelers looking to maximize their AAdvantage award redemptions on business class flights to the Middle East and India, which are just 70,000 AAdvantage miles each way, and also Africa, since if your connection in Doha is <24 hours, it will be just 75,000 AA miles each way. In fact, the last was how I came across this space, while looking for award space for an African Safari for some West Coast-based Award Booking clients.
Keep in mind that this doesn't work well for those looking to get to Europe, unless they're willing to use a lot of AAdvantage miles, since routing via Doha will require two awards: U.S. to Middle East (70K miles) plus Middle East to Europe (42,500 miles).
Here are the LAX-DOH and DOH-LAX nonstop flights that will feature Qatar QSuites, on refitted 777-200LR aircraft:
- QR740 departs LAX 3:05pm and arrives DOH 5:55pm the following day
- QR739 departs DOH 7:55am or 8am and arrives LAX 1:20pm or 2pm.
The good thing is that there's a decent amount of award space, including for 2 people. Here are some examples of award space for LAX to Doha, although keep in mind that award space is dynamic, so it could easily change from one minute to the next as others book it:
And some examples from Doha to LAX:
I'll be flying Qatar QSuites Business Class later this year, and look forward to reviewing this product, which should be on all Qatar U.S. routes within the next 18 months or so.
