Fans of Mandarin Oriental is Mandarin Oriental's plea to get you to book online, by dangling a choice of a couple extra benefits. What they don't tell you: you could get better benefits by booking with Mandarin Oriental Fan Club, which all TravelSort Clients have access to, and which also enable you to use any credit card (including the Chase Sapphire Reserve, earning 3X points per dollar).
Here are the details of the Fans of Mandarin Oriental program:
All members received standard WiFi and a welcome amenity.
If booking online you can choose two of the following (exact selection depends on the property; not all amenities are offered at all properties):
- Early 12noon check-in
- Breakfast for 1 person
- Breakfast for a second guest
- 4pm late check-out
- Streaming high speed WiFi
- One $50 (or EUR 45) dining or spa credit during the stay
- A celebratory treat
- One complimentary pressing service
If you reserve through Mandarin Oriental Fan Club, you receive ALL of these benefits, without having to choose only two of them. Note that because these are superior benefits that include virtually all the Fans of MO benefits, you can't combine them (for example, you receive a maximum of two in-room guests; you can't get a 3rd complimentary breakfast).
- USD 100 Food & Beverage or Spa Credit, per room per stay
- Daily full breakfast for up to two in-room guests
- Complimentary High Speed Streaming Internet Access during stay
- Personalized welcome amenity
- Celebratory treat if celebrating a special occasion, such as an anniversary or birthday
- One category room upgrade, subject to availability at time of check-in
- Early check-in and late check-out, based on availability
The only things you don't receive are guaranteed early check-in/late check-out, which are subject to availability, or pressing service, although if booking a Club level room or suite at Mandarin Oriental hotels that offer a Club Lounge, you'll enjoy complimentary garment pressing anyway and can enjoy the Club Lounge until your room or suite is ready or after you check-out.

The Upshot
It's natural that hotels are working hard to woo back as much as possible of the business they've lost to OTAs such as Expedia, Orbitz and the like by encouraging casual bookers to book direct to obtain some additional benefits, and that's why Mandarin Oriental is rolling out Fans of Mandarin Oriental.
But don't be fooled–any Mandarin Oriental regular or savvy traveler knows that the best way to book Mandarin Oriental is with the hotel's own preferred partner program, Mandarin Oriental Fan Club, to enjoy priority for upgrades and greater benefits. Or, if you must have a 4pm late check-out, some of my TravelSort Clients have me book for them with AMEX Fine Hotels & Resorts benefits, which do guarantee 4pm late check-out–just keep in mind that you must have an AMEX Platinum, AMEX Business Platinum or Centurion card, and must pay for the hotel with an AMEX card.
