The Chase Sapphire Reserve Card Will Earn 3X on Groceries for November 2020-April 2021 on up to $1000 grocery spend per month. While not as lucrative as the Chase Sapphire Reserve 5X bonus on groceries offered in May-June 2020, it's still better than the usual one Ultimate Rewards point per dollar on groceries. It also helps make up for the fact that most cardholders aren't spending close to what they used to spend pre-pandemic on the CSR's 3X bonus categories, dining and travel. For those with the Chase Sapphire Preferred, the bonus is 2X.
The 3X applies to all grocery stores and grocery delivery services (for example Fresh Direct and Instacart) that are categorized as such by their credit card code. Note that some vendors that delivery groceries but normally wholesale to grocery stores, such as Baldor Foods in the NYC area, are NOT included.
Prefer to Earn 3X AMEX Membership Rewards points? The AMEX EveryDay Preferred earns 3X at U.S. supermarkets, on up to $6000 per year in purchases.
Given the current pandemic and continued significant grocery store purchases for many families, 3X Ultimate Rewards points on grocery store spend with the Chase Sapphire Reserve for 6 months, November 2020-April 2021, is a nice perk. It's not as generous as the Chase Freedom 5X on Whole Foods spend in Q3 2020, but not everyone shops regularly at Whole Foods, so 3X on all grocery stores is competitive with the AMEX EveryDay Preferred's card 3X bonus.
Will you use your Chase Sapphire Reserve to earn 3X on groceries starting in November 2020 for 6 months?
