Anguilla Reopening: Accepting Traveler Applications August 21

Anguilla Reopening Coronavirus

.

Anguilla Will Reopen November 1, 2020, and Will Accept Entry Applications Starting August 21, 2020. As of 8/31/20, the Anguilla Tourist Board will have the link to the pre-registration application, which will require:

  • Visitor name, address and contact details
  • Proposed travel dates
  • Submission of the negative results from a PCR COVID-19 test, taken within 3-5 days of arrival
  • Health insurance policy that will cover medical expenses incurred from COVID-19 treatment

Once the traveler's application is approved, Anguilla will issue an electronic certificate authorizing travel to the island.

Anguilla's Phase 1 will last until October 31, and visitors from low-risk countries will be given preference in the entry application process, while visitors from high-risk countries (such as the U.S.) will be assessed on a case by case basis, taking into consideration their place of residence. Presumably this means that in the case of U.S. visitors, applicants from states with low COVID-19 prevalence, such as Maine, Vermont, New York, etc. will be more likely to be admitted.

.

PCR Test on Arrival and on Day 10

All arrivals to Anguilla will be given a PCR test, and if visitors stay 10 days or longer on Anguilla, they will be tested again on the 10th day of their visit.

Assuming their PCR test result on arrival to the airport is negative, visitors will be able to enjoy all their villa or resort facilities, but they won't be permitted to rent a car or go anywhere on the island.

If they test negative a second time on Day 10, they'll be free to rent a car and explore the island.

Note that any arrivals who test positive either at the airport or on Day 10 will have to isolate at a government approved location.

All hotels, resorts and villa rentals are required to register with the government and be certified to host guests. Hotels and villas are currently undertaking staff training, to learn new health and safety protocols.

Where to Stay in Anguilla

By far our top recommendation in Anguilla is the Four Seasons Anguilla, which will reopen November 1, 2020, particularly the beachfront villas and oceanfront villas, which offer three, four or five bedrooms, each with its own en suite bathroom; a full gourmet kitchen, laundry facilities, and deck with private pool. These are perfect for a hassle-free extended family vacation, with the privacy of a stand alone villa but all the amenities and service of a Four Seasons.

The Upshot

Anguilla has an excellent record to date with the coronavirus, having recorded only 3 cases and no deaths, and clearly the island wants to protect its hard won health and safety. Requiring both pre-flight negative PCR tests from visitors, as well as a PCR test at the airport and another one on Day 10, and restricting visitors to their resort or villa until they test negative for a third time on Day 10 is certainly one way to do that, and for well-heeled U.S. visitors that want to only go to low COVID-19 destinations, Anguilla could be worth the hassle.
