Our Sofitel New York Review is from a recent stay at its U.S. flagship hotel in midtown, where all rooms and suites completed a renovation in 2025.

Sofitel New York Location
The Sofitel New York Hotel is located at 45 West 44th Street, between 5th and 6th Avenues. It's a 9-minute walk from Grand Central Station (subway lines 4, 5, 6, 7, S), a 5-minute walk from Bryant Park (subway lines B, D, F, M), a 13-minute walk to the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), and a 20-minute walk to Central Park. Many Broadway theaters and Times Square are within a 5 to 10-minute walk.

While some hotels have been getting rid of lobby lounge seating, there was ample lobby seating during the times we passed through.

The flower arrangement was so lovely I wondered for a moment if the flowers were fake, but no, a touch confirmed the flowers were real.

Sofitel New York Luxury City View King Room
The Sofitel New York is one of the larger luxury properties in Manhattan, with nearly 400 rooms and suites. Rooms are on the smaller side, at only 350 sq. ft. (33 sq. m.); entry-level Superior City View Rooms are on the lower floors, up to floor 14, while Luxury City View Rooms are on floors 15-19.
We arrived after 1am, so I only managed a few photos before we went to bed. Thankfully, Sofitel's beds are among the most comfortable luxury hotel beds, and there was excellent sound proofing since our room was incredibly quiet despite its midtown location. We didn't even hear any noises from neighboring rooms.

This was our view of the city lights at night:

There are power outlets as well as a wireless charging surface for devices next to the bed:

An amenity of Evian bottled water, a madeleine, dark chocolate truffles, and pate aux fruits welcomed us. The madeleine was quite dry, from the air conditioning, but the chocolate truffles were delicious.

The mini bar fortunately had some spare space for personal items, above the chargeable drinks.

A flat screen TV is on the wall across from the bed, and by it, a work desk:

The closet provides ample storage space:

The fabric Sofitel slippers were a notch above the usual hotel slippers:

The bathroom is compact, with a single sink and no separation of the toilet, but does have a glass-enclosed rain shower and separate soaking tub.

As at other Sofitel hotels, bath products are by French perfume maker Diptyque:

The Verdict
While our stay was brief, I was pleasantly impressed with the attention to detail at the Sofitel New York, which isn't often in our clients' consideration set for New York, perhaps because it's not a Virtuoso hotel. While rooms are on the small side, at only 350 sq. ft., and don't have the luxury touch of a separate toilet chamber or double sinks, the beds, as at most Sofitels, are wonderfully comfortable; the bath products are by French perfumier Diptyque, the fabric slippers are good quality, and service at both the front desk and with the bell team was friendly and helpful.
