Chase 30% Transfer Bonus to Avios

Transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards Points to British Airways Avios (also Iberia Avios and Aer Lingus Aer Club) with a 30% Transfer Bonus, reducing the cost of frequent flyer award tickets booked with Avios. The Chase transfer bonuses and great category bonuses in travel, dining, and rotating categories such as hotels, grocery stores, and restaurants are why we put much higher total spend on our Chase Sapphire Reserve, Ink Business Preferred, and Chase Freedom Flex cards (Chase Freedom Flex cards earn 7X on dining this quarter, in Q4 2026) than on our AMEX cards.

Best and Worst Uses of British Airways Avios

Because British Airways Executive Club has a distance based award chart, and charges hefty premiums for first class and business class (as well as hefty fuel surcharges on British Airways awards), it's not ideal for long haul first class awards, especially on British Airways metal. That said, the British Airways Executive Club award calendar opens 354 days in advance while the Alaska Mileage Plan calendar opens just 330 days in advance, so using Avios to reserve award flights does give you a 24 day lead in securing award seats.

Avios, with the transfer bonus, can provide a good value for Iberia Business Class awards. We've reserved Iberia Business Class for clients to Europe from Boston BOS for 40,500 Iberia Avios + $121 per ticket. With the 30% transfer bonus, it works out to 32,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points, an incredible deal for transatlantic business class, particularly when you consider how much easier it is to earn Chase Ultimate Rewards points from credit card spend, with 2X, 3X and 5X category bonuses from various Chase cards, compared to earning other miles via credit card spend.

Recently it's become harder to book Iberia Business Class awards to and from West Coast cities such as San Francisco SFO and Los Angeles LAX, but if flying from Mexico City MEX to Madird, it's possible to redeem 74,000 Iberia Plus Avios + $182, a bargain for this nearly 11 hour flight, especially with the 30% transfer bonus, which is just 60,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points.

Other good uses of Avios are using them to fly Qatar Qsuites Business Class to Doha, Qatar First Class from Doha to the Maldives, JetBlue Mint to London, Paris or Amsterdam for 78K Qatar Avios (transfer your BA Avios to Qatar Avios), short haul economy flights in the U.S. or from the U.S. to the Caribbean on American, intra-Europe on British Airways, intra-Japan on JAL, and intra-Asia on Cathay Pacific or JAL.
