Tides Restaurant Location and Hours

Tides Restaurant is located just off the lobby of The Reykjavik EDITION Hotel, Reykjavik's only luxury hotel, which is at Austurbakki 2, by the Harpa Concert Hall. The restaurant is open daily for breakfast from 7-10:30am; lunch 12 noon to 2:30pm; and dinner 5:30-10pm.

Tides Restaurant Breakfast

TravelSort Clients enjoy complimentary daily breakfast buffet for two at Tides Restaurant with our STARS preferred partner benefits. The buffet is a good medium-size buffet, which during our visit featured fresh fruit; Icelandic skyr (similar to Greek yogurt); cold cuts and a few local cheeses; plenty of gravlax (smoked salmon with dill); scrambled eggs and sausages; breads, croissants, and pains au chocolat.

On our first morning there was even shrimp, but that wasn't available our other two mornings.

Cooked to order eggs and espresso drinks are also available; we flagged down a server to order omelets and cappuccinos.

Tides Restaurant Lunch

TravelSort Clients enjoy a $100 equivalent dining credit for use during their stay, which can be used towards dining in Tides Restaurant, Tides Cafe, The Roof, and the Lobby Bar. Since our room wasn't quite ready in the early afternoon when we arrived, we had lunch at Tides. The lunch menu offers a mixture of Italian dishes and comfort food, with a couple Asian-inflected dishes as well.

The complimentary hearty rye bread and local butter was excellent.

Unfortunately, after getting the bread, it took around 50 minutes for our fairly simple lunch dishes to arrive, to the point where we asked two different servers to check on our order, even though the restaurant wasn't that crowded. To be fair, the delay could have been because one of us has a food allergy and has to avoid cross-contamination, so this might not affect diners without allergies.

When it did arrive, the Pan-Roasted Chicken Supreme was the stand-out, with perfectly cooked, juicy chicken atop truffled mashed potatoes and flavorful charred leeks, as well as a bilberry sauce.

The creamy Rigatoni Carbonara was also very good, made with Icelandic Feykir sheep's milk cheese, yet almost too rich: even our perpetually hungry teen couldn't finish what initially seemed like a modest portion.

Fortunately we also ordered some simple steamed vegetables to round out the meal.

The Verdict

We enjoyed our delicious and complimentary breakfasts at Tides, especially since Iceland is extremely expensive (so many food items, with the exception of local dairy, meat, fish, and eggs, are imported). Highlights were the made-to-order omelets, gravlax smoked salmon, shrimp (the one morning it was offered), cappuccinos, skyr, and granola. We would have loved to have had fresh-squeezed juices and fresh berries, but Reykjavik luxury isn't at the same level as luxury in Paris, the Maldives, or Asia.

Lunch was excellent in terms of the food quality, particularly the chicken dish, but took far too long.
