Messinn Seafood Restaurant in Reykjavik is one of many places to dine on fresh seafood in Iceland's capital. Is it worth a trip? We decided to find out.
Messinn Location and Hours
Messinn is located at Lækjargata 6 in downtown Reykjavik. The restaurant is open daily for lunch and dinner; from 11:30am to 10pm on weekdays, and from noon to 10pm on weekends.

Messinn Menu and Food
Messinn's focus on seafood is in its name, so it should be no surprise that, with a couple vegan exceptions and the desserts, all dishes include seafood.

Fish Pan main courses are generous (which is appropriate given the price). Our teen chose the Seafood Pasta, minus the usual garlic bread accompaniment, and raved about it.

.
My husband chose the Arctic Char, which was seared nicely in butter and addictively flavored with honey and almonds.

.
I chose the traditional Icelandic dish of plokkfiskur, a fish stew made with cod, potatoes, and white wine in a creamy bechamel sauce. I normally don't care much for cod, but this was delicious. The lime and accompanying arugula are great pairings for this rich dish.

.
The Verdict
We all enjoyed our seafood dishes at Messinn. Note that the food is on the heavy side (I could only eat half of my dish, despite having had a very light lunch) so consider sharing one of the fish pans with a partner and seeing if the kitchen can provide a side salad or additional vegetables. Unless you're a teenager or exceptionally hungry, that is.
