Review: American Airlines Flagship Lounge at JFK Airport

The American Airlines Flagship Lounge at JFK Airport Terminal 8 is on the 4th floor, easily reachable by the elevators after passing through security. We presented our boarding passes and lounge passes to the friendly attendant, and were ushred into the lounge. It was quite crowded when we entered at about 8:30pm, but we did manage to find 3 seats together by one of the large screen TVs.

The munchkin of course, true to his moniker, was immediately hungry and so we went to look at the food selection.

There were better hot buffet offerings than I expected for a U.S. airline's lounge (given that it was the American Airlines Flagship Lounge, not the Admirals Club, as I previously thought), even though of course this late in the day they looked a bit picked over.

The munchkin focused on the fruit, first an apple:

Then on the cheese plate:

There was also roast chicken, alongside beet and carrot salad and a garbanzo bean salad:

The soups didn't look terribly appetizing:

But the pork loin in a porcini mushroom sauce was surprisingly decent. The roast asparagus wasn't overcooked and was quite good as well, although the mashed potatoes with garlic was tepid and not that great:

There was of course quite a variety of liquors:

Although I didn't need a shower, I checked out a key from the attendant to take a look. While very spartan and not as nice as, say, the shower at the Lufthansa First Class Lounge in Munich, it had everything you needed. The shower even offered Dermalogica bath amenities in dispensers, and the towels were in a green ribbon, a nice touch.

We have to go run for our flight, and I'll be offline for a number of hours en route…to guess where 🙂
