Mexico to Vaccinate All Adults in Tourism Destinations

.

Mexico Plans to Fully Vaccinate All Adults in Five of Its Most Popular Tourism Destinations, which are likely to include Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta, and Cancun/Riviera Maya, although a final decision is yet to be taken.

Mexico would be following the example of Greece, which has touted its plan for COVID-free islands as part of its reopening (see Greece and France Opening to Americans).

At time of writing, although Mexico has approved 6 vaccines for its vaccination program, only 8.7% of its population has received at least one vaccine dose, compared to nearly 40% of U.S. residents and nearly 50% of UK residents.

Under Mexico's plan proposed by the Tatiana Clouthier, reported in Mexico News Daily, the federal economy minister, all adult residents of the five Mexican tourism destinations would be vaccinated against Covid-19 prior to the summer 2021 holiday season.

Clouthier's proposal to Mexican President López Obrador is focused on encourage more travel to Mexico over the summer.

“The president thought it was a very good idea, and we are determining what the five destinations will be,” she said, noting that they will be ones where the local economy heavily depends on tourism.

Where to Stay in Los Cabos

While we're excited about the upcoming late 2021 opening of the new Four Seasons Tamarindo in Puerto Vallarta, Los Cabos is currently where we send most of our Mexico-bound clients. Our favorite recommendations there are:

Four Seasons Los Cabos at Costa Palmas, depending on time of year: there's a caveat, and it is that this area can get very cool and windy. We recommend visiting late spring-summer. We can reserve with Four Seasons Preferred Partner benefits, which have recently been enhanced to offer even greater value for guests booking suites and private residences.

Zadun, a Ritz Reserve property, is also a quite new resort in the Los Cabos area, and has enjoyed some good reviews from clients who are normally Four Seasons loyalists. The beach is less bothered by wind in this location than at the Four Seasons. We can reserve with Marriott STARS benefits.

Zadun, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve

.

The Cape, a Thompson Hotel, isn't at the same caliber service-wise as the Four Seasons or Zadun, but some clients do enjoy the villas here, which provide a more residential experience. We can reserve with Hyatt Prive benefits.
