JetBlue 20% Off Deal and Getaway Ideas

JetBlue is offering 20% off Flights today and tomorrow only, in celebration of its inaugural flight from NYC to Havana, Cuba. Here are the details:

  • Go to jetblue.com/promo to auto-populate the promo code, CELEBRATE

Example 1: Roundtrip to Cuba for $195

Cuba isn't a luxury travel destination (at least not yet) but plenty of folks would like to go. Here's an example of nonstop NYC JFK to Havana HAV flights for $194.36 roundtrip:

  • Depart Jan. 19 JFK 8:58am, Arrive HAV 1:05pm for $99
  • Depart HAV Jan. 26 2:20pm, Arrive JFK 5:33pm for $97

Example 2: NYC Roundtrip to St. Maarten / St. Martin (SXM) for ~$300 per person

While St. Martin itself doesn't have much in the way of true luxury resorts, it's just a short boat ride from the harbor near the airport to Anguilla, where the new Four Seasons Anguilla (formerly The Viceroy Anguilla) is. As an example, a couple could use the JetBlue promo to fly for ~$300 roundtrip per person from NYC to SXM Feb. 2-7, then enjoy the Four Seasons Anguilla's 5th night complimentary offer, including the following Four Seasons Preferred Partner benefits:
  • Daily full American breakfast for two people per bedroom, served through In-Room Dining or in the hotel restaurant (including buffets)
  • Spa credit of USD100 once during stay (not applicable to products)
  • Upgrade of one category, based on availability at time of check-in (excluding signature suites, villas, and private residences)
  • Complimentary basic Internet in all guest rooms, complimentary premium Internet in all suites.

Example 3: NYC Roundtrip to Grand Cayman for ~$240 per person

For sample dates of January 27-31, JFK-GCM nonstop is $84 per person, and GCM-JFK is $155 per person, so $239 per person roundtrip.

The Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman is offering, for select cardholders, a 4th night free offer for stays until January 31, if booked by January 15; TravelSort can book this for clients with an AMEX Platinum or an AMEX Business Platinum, and include AMEX Fine Hotels & Resorts benefits.

Or if you don't have an AMEX Platinum, there is a Ritz-Carlton STARS offer for 20% savings on a 5 night stay in 2016, and 20% savings on a 6 night stay in 2017.

Which Credit Card to Use for JetBlue Flights

If you have the JetBlue Plus card, it earns 6X per dollar spent on JetBlue purchases, but otherwise, the best card to use is the AMEX Platinum (personal), which earns 5X on airfare, or the Chase Sapphire Reserve, which earns 3X on all travel and automatically gives you statement credit for your first $300 in travel spend per December to December billing cycle.
