AMEX: Qantas 20% Transfer Bonus

AMEX: Qantas 20% Transfer Bonus
The AMEX 20% Transfer Bonus to Qantas Can Be Used to Book El Al Business Class

AMEX Points Now Transfer to Qantas, and there's a 20% transfer bonus through 6/30/19. This will be especially good for those seeking to redeem on El Al to Tel Aviv, although Emirates First Class, as my prior article mentioned, could also be a good bet. NYC JFK to Dubai DXB in Emirates First, which is normally 126,000 Qantas miles, would be 105,000 AMEX Membership Rewards points with this 20% transfer bonus, although keep in mind the ~$840 in fees. Still, it makes it more competitive with Alaska Mileage Plan, which charges 150,000 Alaska miles but only $20 in fees.

By transferring AMEX points to Qantas, you also make it more likely that you'll be targeted in the future with a Qantas transfer bonus. In addition to public transfer bonus offers such as this one and the AMEX 30% Transfer Bonus to Virgin Atlantic Flying Club valid until July 1, 2019, AMEX Membership Rewards sometimes also targets transfer bonuses to particular members, and with Qantas, card holders who previously transferred points to Qantas are most likely to be targeted.

Best Way to Earn AMEX Membership Rewards Points

In terms of earning AMEX Membership Rewards points, I find the best deal to be had is the AMEX Blue Business Plus card, which earns 2X Membership Rewards points on all spend and has no annual fee. After the AMEX Business Platinum fee increased to $595, I cancelled the card, and haven't missed it at all. I also can't see paying $250 per year for the AMEX Gold card, even with it earning 4X on stand alone restaurants (this will increase to all restaurants globally, from just U.S. restaurants) especially when there have been problems recently for many cardholders trying to get the 4X bonus to post, due to the way certain restaurants are coded. 4X on supermarkets isn't attractive either, when I can earn 5X with the current Chase Freedom quarterly bonus, and all year round at Whole Foods by buying Whole Foods gift cards at an office supply store with our Ink Cash card.
