A Number of New Luxury Hotels Opened in 2019 or Will Open Later in 2019. Out of all of them, I've highlighted the ones below that I consider most significant, taking into account the brand's reputation for high quality in the luxury space, demand for the destination, and the hotel location and amenities.

1. Singita Kwitonda, Rwanda (Opened August 1, 2019)

Highlights: Fabulous Singita service and accommodation with just 8 suites and 1 4-BR villa, make this the top recommended option for gorilla trekking. As always, all meals and beverages (including wines, but excluding French champagne) and laundry service are included in the rates. Note that gorilla trekking permits are at additional cost, currently $1500 per person per trek, and participants must be at least age 15.

Highlights: Located on 2 miles of enviable beachfront by the Sea of Cortez, about a 45 minute drive from Los Cabos Airport (SJD), enjoy swimming, snorkeling, the nearby Cabo Pulmo marine reserve (a UNESCO Marine World Heritage site), fishing, golf, and desert experiences. Local organic farmers provide much of the resort's fruit and vegetables.

3. Zadun, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve, Los Cabos (Opens October 25, 2019)

This resort's opening kept getting pushed back, but perhaps the Four Seasons Los Cabos at Costa Palmas, which will open on October 1, 2019, had the effect of spurring Zadun's October 25, 2019 opening.

4. Four Seasons Madrid (Opens Late 2019)

Highlights: Central location just a 10 minute walk from the Prado Museum, gorgeous renovation of historical buildings, rooftop dining by 3-Michelin star chef Dani Garcia, four-level spa with pool and sun terrace.

5. Aman Kyoto (Opens November 2019)

Highlights: Location is close to Kinkaku-ji (the Golden Temple), and the setting is on 80 acres of land, for just 24 accommodations, making it a peaceful retreat. Onsen (natural hot springs) on site.

7. Park Hyatt Kyoto (Opens November 15, 2019)

Highlights: Located in the Higashiyama District, near Kodai-ji Temple, the new Park Hyatt Kyoto is only a 20 minute walk from Kiyomizu-dera temple. Also on the hotel grounds is the nearly 150 year old Kyoyamato Restaurant, specializing in kaiseki cuisine. It will be one of the smaller Park Hyatts, at just 70 rooms, including 9 suites. Interiors by Tony Chi will feature Tamo (Japanese Ash) wood and original artworks.

8. Four Seasons Bangkok Chao Phraya: Opening Late 2019

Highlights: The new Four Seasons Bangkok Chao Phraya marks the Four Seasons' return to Bangkok, after a 4 year hiatus (the former Four Seasons Bangkok reflagged as the Anantara Siam Bangkok). The new hotel enjoys a stunning location, as its name implies, by the Chao Phraya River, where river boats are one of the best ways to get to many Bangkok sights. The landscaping will include many trees, gardens and waterfalls, a welcome oasis in a hot and bustling city.

Four Seasons Bangkok Chao Phraya Opens 2019

9. Four Seasons Montreal (Opened June 1, 2019)

Highlights: Four Seasons is a Canada-based international luxury hotel brand, so it's surprising that this is its first hotel in Montreal, Canada's 2nd largest city after Toronto. The new hotel is conveniently located on Rue de la Montaigne, steps from the city's Golden Mile. For couples, a Premier or Premier Carre Dore is the perfect base, with new and luxurious finishes. For families, a 1BR Suite is ideal, as some of these have a sofa bed for a child or third guest; some also have a dining table for 4 guests. After a busy day of meetings or seeing the sights, relax in the skylit indoor swimming pool, sauna or steam room, or unwind with a spa treatment. Marcus Restaurant and Terrace, by Chef Marcus Samuelsson, is already becoming a popular spot for locals as well as guests for lunches and dinners.

10. Park Hyatt Auckland, New Zealand: Opening Q4 2019

Highlights: Auckland is New Zealand's largest city, but to date, the main luxury hotel has been the Sofitel Auckland. The new Park Hyatt Auckland, will offer 195 rooms and suites. Even entry-level rooms are quite spacious, at 500 square feet, with walk-in closets and bathrooms that have separate soaking tubs and rain showers. Some rooms and suites boast their own private balcony or sun deck. Amenities include several restaurants and a health club with a spa and an 82 feet (25 meters) long infinity pool.

Park Hyatt Auckland, New Zealand to Open in 2019

11. J.K. Place Paris Rive Gauche (Opens November 1, 2019)

Highlights: The first J.K. Place outside of Italy, J.K. Place Paris is located at 82 Rue de Lille on the Left Bank, where so many clients want to stay, but where there's a dearth of luxury hotel offerings. The location is in a former embassy building, with colorful interiors designed by Michele Bönan, and it's intimate in scale, with just 29 rooms and suites, yet there's still a small Sisley Spa and pool. Casa Tua, the Italian restaurant, will be the third, after locations Miami and Aspen.

12. Belmond Cadogan London (Opened February 2019)

Highlights: The new Belmond Cadogan Hotel is situated in Chelsea at 75 Sloane Street, a short walk from Harrods and Knightsbridge shopping, as well as walking distance to Hyde Park, the Natural History Museum and Buckingham Palace. With only 54 rooms and suites, it's an intimate boutique hotel, and enjoys exclusive access to Cadogan Place Gardens, private gardens that are reserved for residents of the mansions and apartments that encircle the gardens. Tennis players may enlist the Concierge to reserve one of the tennis courts at Cadogan Gardens.

Highlights: Easily the best luxury hotel in Philadelphia now, it renews a Four Seasons presence in the city after a hiatus of 4 years, when the old Logan Square location closed. Choose a Landmark View room or suite for the best views.

14. Four Seasons Boston One Dalton Street (Opened May 28, 2019)

Highlights: The new Four Seasons Boston One Dalton Street is Boston's newest luxury hotel, with floor to ceiling windows providing great natural light, some with Back Bay Views. Suites feature stand alone soaking tubs; I recommend the Back Back Corner Suite, which has especially stunning views, including from the bathroom. Enjoy swimming in the pool, also bathed in natural light, a spa treatment, or dine at Zuma Restaurant.

Highlights: Superb central location near the Spanish Steps, some rooms and suites have a panoramic view over Rome. As many of the rooms are small, I recommend reserving a Deluxe Panoramic View Room or higher category.
