Sapphire Preferred MasterCard-Last Chance for 40,000 Bonus, CDW Coverage Worldwide

Update: I no longer have a referral for the Sapphire Preferred MasterCard.

Best current offer for the Sapphire Preferred is 40,000 points

Quick update: The above link to the Sapphire Preferred World MasterCard expires 10am today. Here are a few reasons you may want to apply before the link is pulled, which you can also provide if needed when calling reconsideration and asked why you want a Chase Preferred World MasterCard:

  • Another 40,000 Ultimate Rewards points (actually, after you complete the minimum spend of $3000 on the card to receive the bonus and receive your end of year 7% point dividend, it will be a total of 46,010 points), which transfer 1:1 to United MileagePlus miles, Hyatt points, Korean Skypass miles, etc.
  • Some stores, such as Sam's Club, do not accept Visa
  • Worldwide CDW insurance for car rentals, including in Israel, which is notoriously difficult to get collision damage waiver insurance for via your credit card. The Chase Sapphire Preferred World MasterCard covers Israel and other countries, such as Australia, Ireland, Italy and others that are commonly excluded by other credit cards. It's a good idea to have MasterRental, which provides the insurance, email you the coverage letter so you can bring it with you when you rent a car in Israel (or any other country) as proof that you do *not* need to purchase the rental agency's insurance, which often comes with a high deductible ($250 or so) that they then try to make you pay over trumped up scratches and “damage” that were in all likelihood there when you rented the vehicle.
  • You'll need a MasterCard to gain access to MasterCard's “Priceless” experiences. At least in NYC, there are some cool events for families and kids that are sponsored by MasterCard, and you need to use a MasterCard to pay for them.
  • As with the Visa version of the card, there are no foreign transaction fees

Tips
  • The application from the link above does not say MasterCard on it, but it is for the World MasterCard version of the Chase Sapphire Preferred.
  • Note that you may have a tough time getting approved for both cards; it might be easier to make the case that you want the MasterCard, and are willing to move your credit line from the Chase Sapphire Preferred Visa over to the MasterCard before closing it.
  • In preparation for closing the Visa version, make sure you move your existing Ultimate Rewards points from your Sapphire Preferred Visa to either your Ink Bold or Freedom Ultimate Rewards account, so that you don't risk losing those points. If you don't have your own Ink Bold or Freedom Ultimate Rewards account, you could transfer your points to a family member, or as a last resort, transfer to an airline or hotel partner. I recommend United or Hyatt, which tend to provide the highest value redemption opportunities.
