Lufthansa New First Class Suites

Lufthansa First Class Suites

.

Lufthansa's New First Class Suites with closing doors will debut in mid-2023 on select A350-900 aircraft, and eventually on 787-9 and 777-9 aircraft, with 747-8 aircraft to be converted. This will be a first for Lufthansa First Class, which currently has an open suite design that lacks privacy. Here are the suite highlights:

  • Suite walls will nearly reach the ceiling, with closing doors for privacy
  • Seat is nearly 39 inches (1 meter) wide
  • All seats face forward
  • Large personal wardrobe in every suite
  • Ability to dine across from a partner or colleague
  • Large IFE screen that extends across the full width of the suite, with Bluetooth connectivity for wireless headphones

.

Further details on the suite are to be released in early 2023, so we don't yet know the configuration of these suites, but given the width of the seats, we'd expect a 1-1-1 seating configuration, which is also the case with Qantas' new A350 First Class Suites that are expected to launch in late 2025.

Don't Expect to Book Lufthansa First Class Suites as Award Tickets

We've noticed Lufthansa becoming extremely stingy with Lufthansa First Class awards even with Lufthansa Miles & More miles (which are the only way to reserve Lufthansa First Class far in advance, as Lufthansa only releases award availability to Star Alliance partners such as United MileagePlus, Aeroplan, etc. up to 15 days in advance). We expect these new Lufthansa First Class Suites to result in a reduced number of first class seats on reconfigured 747-8 aircraft, and coupled with already stingier release of Lufthansa first class awards, we expect extremely limited availability of these suites even for Lufthansa Miles & More members, to say nothing of frequent flyers using other Star Alliance miles, even if willing to book last minute. It's also possible that Lufthansa will go the way of SWISS, which limits SWISS First Class award bookings to Miles & More Senator elites and above, so regular Miles & More members wouldn't be able to reserve award seats even if they have enough miles.
