Which Hawaii Luxury Hotels Do Not Charge a Resort Fee? Hawaii is one of those destinations, similar to Las Vegas, where it can be very hard to avoid paying a resort fee. And some properties are worse than others at disclosing they charge a mandatory resort fee. For example, the Montage Kapalua Bay in Maui doesn't explicitly allude to a resort fee when searching availability and rates, but it does charge a $40 per night resort fee. At least the Andaz Maui at Wailea posts the $45 per night resort fee on its home page, as does the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua Maui, which charges a $35 per night resort fee and also displays this on its home page.
Without further ado, here are the Hawaii luxury hotels that don't charge a resort fee:
1. Four Seasons Lanai
A good way in general to avoid resort fees (except in Las Vegas) is to pick a Four Seasons hotel. None of the Four Seasons hotels in Hawaii charge a resort fee. Now, granted, Four Seasons Lanai is quite pricey for most of the year, but this also reflects the extensive multi-million dollar renovation the resort completed in 2016. For those who want the freshest looking luxury resort rooms and suites, the Four Seasons Lanai is where to head.
Although there's no resort fee, complimentary activities include snorkeling gear for use during the stay; poolside treats, Evian spritzes and sunglasses cleaning; golf clinics and tours of the Manele Golf Course (reserve in advance); the cultural program, with lei making, hula lessons and ukulele lessons; guided tours of the resort's botanical gardens; shuttles to Lanai City (call in advance to reserve); the Kids for All Seasons kids' club for children ages 5-12; children's welcome amenities and, upon request, playpen, stroller, high chair, babyproofing materials for use during the stay; shared shuttle transfers between the resort and the airport; and more.
Four Seasons Preferred Partner Benefits
- Daily full American breakfast for two people per bedroom, served through In-Room Dining or in the hotel restaurant (including buffets)
- Food and beverage credit of USD100
- Upgrade of one category, based on availability at time of check-in (excluding signature suites, villas, and private residences)
- Welcome note at check-in acknowledging you and your travel agency and the amenities that are being extended
- Complimentary basic Internet in all guest rooms; complimentary premium Internet in all suites
2. Four Seasons Hualalai, Big Island
There's no resort fee for guests of the Four Seasons Hualalai, and even self-parking is complimentary (valet parking is $25 per night). Complimentary activities and services include Cultural Center classes (such as lei making, Hawaiian language, hula, how the Hawaiians navigated using the stars); early morning coffee and pastries in the lobby; wine tasting at ‘ULU on Wednesdays; welcome milk and cookies for kids on their arrival day; complimentary meals for kids 4 and younger when dining in restaurants; the Kids for All Seasons kids' club; Hale Kua game and activity center for teens; self service laundry machines for guests; select fitness walks and aqua fitness; tennis doubles on Thursday evenings; poolside amenities, sprites and sunglass cleaning; and more.
Preferred Partner benefits are identical to the Four Seasons Lanai.
3. Four Seasons Maui at Wailea
Four Seasons Maui at Wailea similarly doesn't charge a resort fee, unlike the Montage, Andaz, Fairmont, and other Maui luxury hotels, and offers similar complimentary amenities to the other Four Seasons Hawaii resorts, although do note it charges for parking and also for snorkeling equipment after the first complimentary hour, so you may want to bring your own mask and snorkel. For those who enjoy spending time poolside, the good news is that there are 64 cabanas that are complimentary to guests on a first come, first served basis; the cabanas that are charged for are the 6 by the Adults-only serenity pool. Also enjoy introductory fitness classes such as Mat Pilates and Aqua Cardio fusion on a complimentary basis. The tennis court can also be reserved on a complimentary basis for couples or families to play tennis, although tennis clinics with an instructor cost $50 per person, and of course private lessons are charged for. Don't miss the morning complimentary outrigger canoe paddling excursion, which should be reserved in advance (up to one month prior to when you'd like to paddle).
Preferred Partner benefits are identical to the Four Seasons Lanai and Hualalai.
4. Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, Big Island of Hawaii
The Mauna Kea Beach Hotel on the Big Island, part of Marriott's Autograph Collection, surprisingly doesn't charge a resort fee, although unlike at Four Seasons Hualalai, where self parking is complimentary, you will pay $30 per night for self parking at the Mauna Kea Beach.
5. Halekulani, Waikiki, Oahu
The Halekulani is one of Waikiki's iconic hotels. It's oceanfront, and a memorable experience is listening to live music and watching a hula dancer at sunset at the House Without a Key. There are also complimentary 9:30am surfing and stand up paddle boarding demonstrations, as well as morning stretch classes on the beach. Or find out how the Halekulani keeps everything running smoothly during a complimentary Back of the House tour, or learn about its history during its Legacy Tour.
6. Four Seasons Oahu at Ko Olina
At Four Seasons Oahu, complimentary services include early morning coffee in the lobby, oceanfront yoga and daily fitness classes, and pool services.
Four Seasons Preferred Partner Benefits

- Spa credit of USD100 once during stay (not applicable to products)

6. The Kahala
At The Kahala, there's no resort fee, yet you'll still enjoy a complimentary lei greeting, a resort shuttle to Waikiki, introductory surfing lessons and standup paddleboard clinics Wednesday to Friday, early morning tea and coffee in the Lower Lobby 5:30-8:30am, standard internet, and bottled water at turndown and for runners.

I think the Mauna Kea Autograph Collection on the big island doesn’t charge a resort fee
Tim, yes, thanks for that reminder; we’ve included the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, which at time of writing doesn’t charge a resort fee (although there is a self parking fee of $30 per night).
