Our Conrad Punta de Mita Review will be helpful to clients and readers deciding between it and Four Seasons Punta Mita. The Conrad Punta de Mita, which opened in 2020 during the pandemic, is Conrad's first Mexico resort, which has since been joined by Conrad Tulum Riviera Maya. The resort was designed by SB Architects, which also designed the Kimpton Seafire in Grand Cayman and is designing the new Park Hyatt Los Cabos
.
Location and Check-In
Conrad Punta de Mita is located about a 47 minute drive from Puerto Vallarta (PVR), which is served by nonstop flights from ATL, AUS, DEN, DFW, EWR, IAH, JFK, LAS, LAX, PHX, SEA, SLC, and other cities, and about a 13 minute drive from Four Seasons Punta Mita.
We'd arranged a pickup with the Conrad Punta de Mita from the Four Seasons Punta Mita, where we were staying, but at the appointed time, there was no vehicle or driver. We had to call the hotel to learn that the driver was delayed, and we weren't picked up until about 40 minutes after our originally scheduled time. At the hotel, we checked in at the desk, a more formal and less enjoyable process than at the Four Seasons, where we received a cool towel and delicious welcome drink, and since it appeared it would take awhile for transport to our room, we walked ourselves and our luggage to Building 8.
.
Ocean View King Room
Our Ocean View King Room was 646 sq. ft., with a clean, modern design. The queen size sofa bed was perfect for our son, and could be shared by two kids, so a family of four could be accommodated.
.
Our favorite part of the room was the comfortably furnished balcony, with a day bed and table for al fresco dining while enjoying the ocean view
.
By the desk were some welcome chocolates and truffles; keep in mind that these are perishable given the warm temperatures, as on a subsequent day I broke one open and found mold, so if you're not consuming them immediately, place them in the mini fridge.
.
The bathroom features round mirrors, double sinks, a separate toilet chamber and a large walk-in shower with a rainfall shower head. Bath products are by Shanghai Tang, which used to make the pajamas for Cathay Pacific First Class, although Cathay has since switched to PYE organic cotton pajamas.
.
None of the rooms come with a soaking tub, so if that's important, be sure to reserve a suite, as suites have a separate soaking tub:
.
Select suites have a full kitchen, which could be very helpful for longer stays or when traveling with young children:
.
Some suites offer a plunge pool on the terrace:

Conrad Punta de Mita Adult Pool, Family Pool, Beach
Our Building, Building 8, was closest to the adult pool, which is on the right hand side of the resort as you face the ocean. Although our stay was in February, normally a peak travel time, there were plenty of available loungers by the adult pool and it never felt crowded. For those wanting more social interaction, the most crowded it ever got was in the late afternoon, where there was plenty of drinking going on by the bar.
.
The Family Pool is by the Paleta Poolside Bar, and features a water slide that was popular with kids and even a few adults (see our video above). There was a jacuzzi and also a large free form pool nearby with a view of the ocean that some used for lap swimming, since there isn't another lap pool.
.
The beach was barely used during our stay, perhaps because there aren't any loungers set up, and the surf was a bit rough. This made it ideal for boogie boarding, which my husband and son enjoyed. There's a small kiosk that rents boogie boards for a reasonable rate.
.
Tennis, Pickleball, Game Room
There's a tennis court, two pickleball courts, and a basketball court that can be used, with equipment checked out from the Concierge. Even in February it was sunny and very hot during the day, so we recommend playing in the early morning or early evening.
.
There's a Game Room with ping pong and a pool table, good indoor activities when it gets too hot to play tennis or pickleball
.
Conrad Punta de Mita Breakfast
Breakfast is complimentary for all TravelSort Clients, and can be enjoyed either as a breakfast buffet at Arbol, which is just off of the lobby, or a la carte at Mezquite, which is right by the beach.
Here's the spread at Arbol:

The Verdict
Although the Conrad Punta de Mita is larger, at over 300 rooms and suites, than the luxury resorts we usually prefer to stay at, we enjoyed our stay after the initial snafu with a delayed pickup. Particular highlights were the modern decor, spacious and comfortably furnished balcony with a good ocean view, breakfasts at Mezquite by the beach and Arbol, boogie boarding at the beach, and complimentary pickleball. The water slide is fun for kids, and there were plenty of loungers around the pools, particularly the adult pool, during our February stay. The resort grounds and sport/yoga/resort activities aren't as extensive as at the Four Seasons Punta Mita, so that's something to keep in mind both for sport enthusiasts and for families with kids and teens, and the resort is about a 10 minute drive from Punta Mita town, which may be inconvenient for guests without a car who want to dine off-property.
