You can transfer Ultimate Rewards points from a card such as the Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase Sapphire Reserve, or Ink Business Preferred to transfer to Virgin Atlantic Flying Club; AMEX Membership Rewards points also transfer to Virgin Atlantic.

It's also possible to reserve using British Airways Avios, Finnair Avios, or JAL Mileage Bank (but your JAL Mileage Bank account must be open at least seven days before redeeming miles; JAL charges 42,000 miles each way or 60,000-80,000 miles roundtrip).

Where to Stay in Peru

Note that the only hotel right across from Machu Picchu is the Belmond Sanctuary Lodge. It's very basic and not of the same caliber of the other Belmond properties above, but you pay for the incredible location and convenience of being able to have Machu Picchu to yourself (along with the very few other guests of the lodge) before day trippers arrive and after they leave. That can be well worth it, in spite of the property's other limitations.

Alternatively, stay at the Rio Sagrado in the Sacred Valley and do a day trip to Machu Picchu on Belmond's luxury Hiram Bingham train.
