Chase Freedom 5X Q3 2024: Gas Stations, EV Charging, Live Entertainment

Activate Chase Freedom 5X for Q3 2024 bonus categories: gas stations, EV charging, and select live entertainment and movie theaters.

For gas stations, note that these are stand alone auto gas stations; truck stops, boat marinas, oil and propane distributors, etc. are not included. That said, many gas stations do sell gift cards, so those purchases inside the gas station are also included.

For EV charging, note that residential electric vehicle charging is not included, and electric vehicle charging equipment purchases and servicing for any use, including residential or commercial, are not included for the 5X bonus.

For the select live entertainment 5X bonus, this includes major sporting events, zoos and aquariums, concerts, theatrical productions, museums, tourist attractions and exhibits, amusement parks, circuses, carnivals, bands, and entertainers, including ticket agencies selling on behalf of the entertainment venue. Certain merchants that sell tickets for in-person entertainment are not included in this category, such as bowling alleys, horse racing tracks, casinos, and dance hall/clubs. Also excluded from the bonus are purchases from a hotel/concierge and excursions or purchases bought as part of a travel package.

For movie theaters, these are physical locations (streaming services are not included).

Don't forget to finish Chase Freedom 5X Q2 2024 bonus spend on your activated cards by June 30, since this quarter's bonus categories of hotels, restaurants (use your Chase Freedom Flex card for 7X), and Amazon (including Whole Foods) are fantastic and easy to max out (simply purchase gift cards for your favorite local restaurants and Whole Foods/Amazon for future use).

Note that up to $1500 of combined spend per quarter earns the 5X bonus. While there's a bonus tracker, it may not be perfectly updated, so for a more exact accounting of spend, it can be worthwhile to log into your Chase account, select the relevant Chase Freedom card, select “Earn more,” then “Recent rewards activity,” and then click on the > next to “Transaction details” to view a list of your transactions, along with points earning.

If you're not sure whether a given merchant will code correctly for the 5X bonus, make a small purchase and see how it posts before making a large purchase or buying a lot of gift cards.
