Earn 1X Extra Chase Ultimate Rewards Point Using Apple Pay or Google Pay, with your Chase Sapphire Reserve or Chase Sapphire Preferred. With the Chase Sapphire Reserve, that means you can earn 4X if it's a travel or restaurant purchase, such as a taxi that takes Apple Pay, or cafes such as Starbucks or Peet's Coffee, or fast food such as Jamba Juice, Johnny Rockets, Panera Bread, Dunkin' Donuts, etc. Here are the offer details:
- Valid for select Chase cards: Chase Sapphire Reserve, Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase Sapphire, Chase Freedom Unlimited, Chase Marriott, Chase Amazon Prime, Chase Amazon Rewards
- Get an extra point on all purchase made with Apple Pay
- Get an extra point on all purchase made with Google Pay
- Note that the points will only be Ultimate Rewards points if a Chase Sapphire Reserve or Chase Sapphire Preferred card is used. Chase Sapphire and Chase Freedom Unlimited points can transfer out to Ultimate Rewards partners only if the account holder also has an Ultimate Rewards linked card or is able to combine points with a spouse/partner who has an Ultimate Rewards linked card.
- Valid for purchases made December 3rd – December 31st
- The extra point can take 6-8 weeks to post to the account
- No registration is required
Another use is to pay people you'd normally pay cash to, if they're willing to be paid via Apple Pay. True, you'll pay a 3% fee, so it won't make sense for everyone, but it's equivalent to buying Ultimate Rewards points for 1.5 cents per point since you're earning 2X instead of the usual 1X. Since you can't buy Ultimate Rewards points, that could make sense if you're a few thousand points short of a an award redemption.
That said, earlier this year, the Chase Freedom 5X earned 5X on Apple Pay, so I'm hoping for a return of that offer as part of the 2019 Chase Freedom 5X calendar; that would be a far better deal.
