New Chase Air Canada Aeroplan Credit Card in 2021

New Chase Air Canada Aeroplan Credit Card in 2021

.

Chase and Air Canada Will Launch an Aeroplan MasterCard in late 2021 for U.S. consumers. As always with Chase, in order to be approved you'll need to meet the Chase 5/24 rule, which generally disqualifies credit card applicants who have opened 5 or more credit lines (from any issuer, not just Chase) within the past 24 months. Fortunately, most (although not all) business credit cards don't report to the credit bureaus and aren't counted.

The late 2021 launch date for the new Chase Aeroplan credit card also coincides with Chase Ultimate Rewards points becoming transferable 1:1 to Aeroplan miles. Once Aeroplan is added, Chase Ultimate Rewards will have 11 airline partners:

  • Air Canada (Star Alliance)
  • United (Star Alliance)
  • Singapore (Star Alliance)
  • Air France/KLM Flying Blue (SkyTeam)
  • British Airways (Oneworld)
  • Aer Lingus (Oneworld)
  • Iberia (Oneworld)
  • Emirates
  • JetBlue
  • Southwest
  • Virgin Atlantic

Aeroplan Award Savings vs. United MileagePlus

Some Aeroplan award redemptions are less expensive than United MileagePlus awards. For example, San Francisco SFO to Las Vegas LAS in United Economy is 7500 United miles, but just 6000 Aeroplan miles. The same award in United Business Class is an even greater savings: 25,000 United miles vs. 15,000 Aeroplan miles.

Longer haul routes can also produce savings; take United's nonstop Newark EWR to Honolulu HNL Business Class flight. On the relatively few dates where a Saver Award is available, it's 50,000 United MileagePlus miles. Meanwhile, the Aeroplan award for the same United Business Class flight is just 35,000 miles. See Aeroplan's New Award Charts: Pros and Cons.

On the other hand, sometimes United MileagePlus awards are less expensive than Aeroplan. For example, when there's a United Business Class Saver Award for Newark EWR to Tokyo NRT, it's 73,000 United MileagePlus miles; with Aeroplan the same award would be 75,000 miles. And some awards are exactly the same: United Business Class between Newark EWR and Geneva GVA is 60,000 miles, United or Aeroplan if there's a United Saver Award. On the other hand, SWISS Business Class between New York JFK and Geneva would be 77,000 United miles for a Saver Award, but the same 60,000 Aeroplan miles.
