Allianz Travel Insurance Drops Crystal Cruises, Windstar

Allianz Travel Insurance Drops Silversea, Crystal Cruises, Windstar

Updated 9/3/20: Allianz Has Added Silversea (part of Royal Caribbean) back to its list of covered suppliers

Allianz Travel Insurance is Dropping Crystal Cruises, Windstar Cruises, and American Queen Steamboat. This means that Allianz won't cover any of these cruise lines, should any of them cease operations or go bankrupt. It's not surprising that Crystal Cruises is on the list, since Crystal Cruises' parent company, Genting HK, has suspended all payments to creditors.

Typically, Allianz travel insurance does cover financial default of the airlines, cruise lines and tour companies on its List of Covered Suppliers, which at time of writing includes the following airlines and cruise companies:

Airlines

  • Aer Lingus
  • Air Canada
  • Air New Zealand
  • Airtran Airways
  • Alaska Airlines
  • All Nippon Airways (ANA)
  • American Airlines
  • Allegiant Air
  • British Airways
  • Delta Airlines
  • Easy Jet
  • El Al
  • Emirates
  • Hawaiian Airlines
  • Iberia
  • Icelandair
  • Japan Airlines
  • JetBlue
  • Lufthansa
  • Ryanair
  • Singapore Airlines
  • Spirit Airlines
  • Southwest
  • United Airlines

.

Cruise Lines

  • Alaskan Dream Cruises
  • All Discovery Cruising
  • AMA Waterways
  • American Cruise Lines
  • Aqua Expeditions
  • Azamara Cruises
  • Belmond Luxury River Cruises
  • Blount Small Ship Adventures
  • Carnival Cruise Lines
  • Celebrity Cruises
  • Cunard Line
  • Disney Cruise Line
  • Holland America Lines
  • Hurtigruten
  • Imperial River Cruises
  • Innersea Discoveries
  • Lindblad Expeditions
  • MSC Cruises
  • Norwegian Cruise Lines
  • Oceania Cruises
  • Paul Gauguin Cruises
  • Pearl Seas Cruises
  • Ponant USA
  • Princess Cruises
  • Regent Seven Seas Cruises
  • Royal Caribbean

In case you're thinking that your Chase Sapphire Reserve already covers a cruise line's bankruptcy, it doesn't. As of 2019, Chase credit card trip cancellation insurance does not cover travel supplier financial insolvency.

Note also that even if you recently purchased Allianz travel insurance, you may not be covered if your voyage is with Crystal Cruises, Windstar, or one of the other suppliers that Allianz stopped covering effective 8/28/20. That's because for Allianz, in order to be covered, both of the following must be true:

  • You, as the client, must have purchased the Allianz travel insurance within 14 days of the initial trip deposit
  • The airline, cruise line or tour operator must be on the Allianz covered supplier list for 7 days after the purchase of the policy
