We're happy to see grocery stores return as a Q1 5X bonus category, since this is one that we'll easily maximize with our 4 Chase Freedom cards; we're even considering product changing a different Chase card to a Chase Freedom so as to have 5 Freedom 5X cards. In addition to actual grocery spend, it's easy to purchase gift cards for future spend. Whole Foods and some other grocery stores also sell a variety of gift cards for other merchants, making it easy to front load spend and earn 7500 points ($1500 max spend for the quarter x 5x points) per Freedom card, or 30,000 points via our four Chase Freedom cards. 30,000 points may not sound like much, but coupled with the periodic Ultimate Rewards transfer bonuses to British Airways Avios, Virgin Atlantic Flying Club, etc. it can be a significant part of a business class award flight such as Iberia Business Class or ANA Business Class.

Best Uses of Chase Ultimate Rewards Points
Chase Ultimate Rewards points are some of the transferable points we recommend earning, along with AMEX Membership Rewards points. While it's possible to redeem them for gift cards, Amazon purchases, and towards paid flights, the highest value use of the points is to transfer to airline frequent flyer programs to reserve first class or business class award tickets. Keep in mind that award ticket availability is limited, so you'll want to reserve far in advance (most frequent flyer programs open up their award calendar 330-360 days in advance, depending on the program) and be flexible with your dates. Search for award availability before transferring points, and be aware that not all points transfers are instant.
Thanks to being able to earn 3X-5X Ultimate Rewards points per dollar on most of our major spend, due to Chase Freedom 5X quarterly bonuses and 5X from our Ink Cash and old Ink Plus card on cell phone, Internet, as well as gift cards, we find it useful to transfer points to United MileagePlus, since even with its more expensive award chart than some other Star Alliance airlines, the Chase category bonuses make United redemptions an excellent deal. We've redeemed United miles for SWISS Business Class, Brussels Business Class, Austrian Business Class and SAS Business Class, as well as United Polaris flights to Hawaii.
