Location, Hours and Access to the Air France Lounge, Berlin Tegel Airport
Air Berlin, as a low cost carrier, doesn't have its own dedicated lounge even at its hub, Berlin Tegel Airport, although it does have an “exclusive waiting area” which I didn't try. Instead, I opted to access the Air France Lounge, which is located in Terminal A on the 3rd Floor. It's easy to miss the little elevator that takes you to the 3rd floor, but eventually we found it.
Hours are 5:30am to 9:30pm daily, and here are the access policies:
- Air Berlin and SkyTeam Business Class passengers
- Holders of Air Berlin topbonus Platinum and Gold cards
- Oneworld Emerald and Sapphire frequent flyer elites
- SkyTeam Elite Plus frequent flyer elites
Air France Lounge Berlin Tegel Airport Seating and Amenities
The Air France Lounge at Berlin Tegel isn't huge, but during our morning visit there were only about 15 other passengers in the lounge, so there was ample space. That was a good thing, since we ended up sitting at separate tables. Both of us had work to do and the tables were too small to accommodate both my laptop and my son's homework. The WiFi was adequate for my work purposes and uploading small files, but I doubt it would have worked well for video or high bandwidth purposes.
Air France Lounge Berlin Tegel Airport Food and Drinks
As you'd expect for a fairly small lounge, food and drink options were limited, but a bit better than most U.S. airline lounges. There was whole fresh fruit, and also a case with some kind of potato dish:
I was also happy to see a selection of yogurts as well as cut fresh fruit in the refrigerator, along with iced tea and other soft drinks:
Drinks included Evian and wines, although I didn't feel up for any at 9:45 in the morning.
There was also an espresso machine:
What was especially nice was that a cheerful staff member came around to the tables offering a mini wrap of some kind, mini eclairs, and even red, white and blue napkins (Air France colors):
While I'm not in the habit of allowing my son to have a mid-morning dessert, I made an exception and he loved his little treat 🙂
The Verdict
The Air France Lounge at Berlin Tegel Airport, which is open to Air Berlin Business Class passengers, is nothing fancy, but is a perfectly good place to get a coffee and some work done before your Air Berlin flight. Since I didn't expect much (Berlin Tegel isn't exactly Singapore Changi Airport) I was pleasantly surprised by the friendly staff, the selection of yogurts (nothing gourmet, but many basic lounges don't offer any yogurt) and that a staff member was offering mini wraps and mini eclairs.
