Sofitel Berlin Kurfurstendamm Location and Check-In

The Sofitel Berlin Kurfurstendamm is located at Augsburger Str. 41, and was formerly the Hotel Concorde Berlin. It's in a striking looking Art Deco building designed by Jan Kleihues, and if walking the 7-8 minutes from the nearby Zoologischer Garten bus stop (take the X9 bus from Berlin Tegel Airport) you won't miss it.

It's a large hotel, with over 300 rooms and suites, but fortunately in the early evening when we checked in there was no line and check-in proceeded swiftly. The lobby is large, but rather institutional looking, and not as nice as the Sofitel Vienna.

Sofitel Berlin Kurfurstendamm Club Luxury Room

Since we were just overnighting in Berlin on our way home, I reserved a Sofitel Club Luxury Room for us, so that we'd have Club Lounge access and could enjoy a light dinner there as well as breakfast. I'll cover the Club Lounge offerings in a future post.

At this particular Sofitel hotel, there are different Luxury Room types. Booking a Superior Room with Sofitel STEP Program benefits will confirm you into a Luxury Room, which is on low to mid-tier floors, but you'll need to book the Club Luxury Room in order to enjoy Club Lounge access, with the potential for a one-category upgrade based on availability at check-in.

Our Club Luxury Room was on the 10th floor, and was a corner room, with windows on two sides and views of the surrounding area:

The King bed was very comfortable, and somehow plusher than the one at Sofitel Vienna Stephansdom.

There was a welcome amenity of raspberries and what at first appeared to be French macarons, but the macarons were actually marshmellow like in texture and not good at all.

The bathroom was across from a freestanding closet/storage unit, with a walk-in shower, separate toilet chamber, and a soaking tub.

There were Hermes bath products, similar to the Sofitel Vienna.

There were also double his and hers sinks, which I appreciated.

One especially nice touch was that at turndown service, a Valrhona dark chocolate was left for each of us–very classy, and so much better quality than the chocolate you generally see (if provided at all) at turndown service.

Sofitel Berlin Kurfurstendamm Club Lounge

I'll cover the Sofitel Club Lounge offerings in a separate post. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and drink in the lounge.

The Verdict

Berlin has a plethora of hotels, and of the ones my family and clients have experienced to date, the favorite remains the Rocco Forte Hotel de Rome. But for the price, the Sofitel Berlin Kurfurstendamm is excellent value, particularly a Sofitel Club Luxury Room which gives access to the Club Lounge. Club Rooms are on the top 2 floors, many of them with nice views over the Kurfurstendamm area, and spacious, if a slightly strange layout (at least for our corner room). Our room was well maintained, with none of the wear and tear we noticed at the Sofitel Vienna property. While Kurfurstendamm is known particularly for its shopping, it's also a convenient place for an overnight and well connected via airport express bus as well as subway (U-Bahn) to other parts of the city.

If you've stayed at the Sofitel Berlin Kurfurstendamm, what was your experience?
