Which Hotels Offer a Discount on a 2nd Room for Kids?

Which Luxury Hotels offer a Discount on a 2nd Room for Kids? TravelSort reader Cheryl writes “We have two kids, and a single room for all four of us is just too crowded, even when we're able to get a room with two queen beds. But often suites are just too expensive, especially as we prefer to stay at nicer hotels. Which luxury hotels offer a discount on a 2nd room for the kids?”

This is a great question, for families who want a bit more space to spread out, but find suites a bit too expensive, or don't like using a sofa bed or extra bed for the kids, instead of regular beds. Keep in mind, though, that with two rooms, you'll likely want interconnecting rooms, and these need to be blocked in advance for your stay. That means that you're giving up a potential upgrade, due to the need to pre-assign the rooms.

Here are my top recommendations:

1. Rocco Forte Hotels: 50% Off a 2nd Room for Kids

Participating Hotels

  • The Balmoral, Edinburgh, Scotland
  • Brown's Hotel, London, UK
  • Hotel Amigo, Brussels, Belgium
  • Hotel de Rome, Berlin, Germany
  • Villa Kennedy, Frankfurt, Germany
  • Hotel de Russie, Rome, Italy
  • Hotel Astoria, St. Petersburg, Russia
  • The Charles Hotel, Munich, Germany

Dates: The current offer runs until 12/31/17, but I'm hopeful that it will be extended into 2018. I'm also happy to inquire on behalf of TravelSort clients interested in this offer.

Includes:

  • Daily breakfast for the entire family
  • Complimentary meals for children 3 and under
  • 50% discount on meals and beverages for kids ages 4-12

2. The Peninsula Hotels Family Moments: 50% Off a 2nd Room for Kids Under 12

Keep in mind that The Peninsula Family Moments package cannot be combined with Peninsula Pen Club or Virtuoso benefits, and that the kids in the 2nd room must be under 12 years old, so it won't work for families with older kids. A maximum of two children under 12 may be in the 2nd room.

Participating Hotels
Includes
  • Kid's welcome amenity
  • Complimentary daily breakfast for two adults
  • Kids under 12 eat free from the kids' menu throughout their stay, when dining with parents (at The Lobby restaurant only at The Peninsula Paris; excludes Kyoto Tsuruya at The Peninsula Tokyo; for dinner, Peter and Hei Fung Terrace welcome children 6 years and older)
  • Kid's treasure hunt around the hotel (Peninsula Beverly Hills, Peninsula Tokyo for stays of 2 nights or longer)
3. Starwoood: 50% Off 2nd Room for Kids at Select Hotels in EMEA
As with The Peninsula, the Starwood offer cannot be combined with Virtuoso benefits or other offers, so depending on the hotel, it can make more sense to book a 3rd or 4th night free offer for both rooms, that includes Virtuoso benefits. See, for example, Starwood Luxury Privileges: Top 3rd Night Free and 4th Night Free Offers for some recent examples of 3rd night free offers that equate to saving 25-33% on each room for a stay where the last night is the free night.
The good thing is that the 2nd room can accommodate kids under 21, so families with teens can also benefit. Note there can be capacity controls and blackout dates for these rooms.
The kids eat free aspect of the offer, however, only applies to kids up to 12 years old when ordering from the kids' menu and when dining with a paying adult. There is a maximum of one complimentary kid's meal per paying adult.

  • Hotel Danieli, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Venice, Italy
