United Polaris is the Best U.S. Flat Bed Product to Hawaii, But Which Routes Feature It? Flight searches that merely state whether there's a flat bed business class seat generally don't tell you enough, since United also flies high density (HD) 777 aircraft with a 2-4-2 seat configuration which is considerably worse than the Polaris 1-2-1 seating or 1-1-1 seating, where each seat has direct aisle access and greater privacy.

The good news is that several United Airlines routes to Hawaii feature best-in-class Polaris seats. The bad news: these won't last, as United shifts them to other routes. Most, apart from the new Newark to Maui route, will only be in place until March or May 2022.

Which United Aircraft Have the New Polaris Seats?

At time of writing, only United Airlines' 777-300ER, 787-10 and 787-8 aircraft are guaranteed to have the new Polaris seats. United's international 777-200ER aircraft have the new Polaris seats, but these generally aren't flown in the domestic U.S. or to Hawaii.

With United's 767-300s, 33 of 38 have Polaris seats. For the 787-9, only 15 of the 38 have Polaris seats.

For most, reserving directly through United as either a paid or MileagePlus award flight will be easiest, especially for those with a large stockpile of MileagePlus miles. That said, for those with Air Canada Aeroplan balances, award flights can be less expensive for LAX-HNL and DEN-OGG. Less expensive still are awards using Turkish Airlines Miles & Smiles miles, at only 60,000 miles roundtrip for United Business Class, if there's United saver award availability, although be aware that credit card points transfers to Turkish Airlines' frequent flyer program are *not* instant.

Where to Stay in Hawaii

Our current top Hawaii luxury resort recommendation is the newly renovated Four Seasons Hualalai, particularly the suites and rooms in the King's Pond Crescent, which has a new infinity pool and jacuzzis.

For those wanting a resort situated on a white sand beach, with ample opportunity to visit other restaurants and go exploring outside of the resort, the Four Seasons Maui at Wailea is a perennial favorite.

And for couples and even families wanting a more exclusive, remote getaway with activities that include horseback riding and ATV rides in addition to snorkeling, sailing, water sports, tennis and golf, Four Seasons Lanai is an excellent choice.
