This Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea Review and Photos is from our 2021 site inspection stay. We previously reviewed the resort in 2019, but this visit during the pandemic enabled us to see the updated experience, with the Four Seasons Lead with Care health and safety protocols.

Four Seasons Resort Maui Location and Check-In

Four Seasons Maui is located at located at 3900 Wailea Alanui Drive, just over a half hour drive from Kahului Airport (OGG), which is served by nonstop flights from DEN, DFW, EWR, LAS, LAX, OAK, ORD, PDX, PHX, SAN, SEA, SFO, SJC, SLC, and YVR, among others.

We were swiftly checked in to our upgraded Deluxe Ocean View Room on the 7th floor, where some refreshing fresh fruit, bottled water, and chocolate cake for a birthday we were celebrating awaited us.

Four Seasons Maui Rooms and Suites

The resort offers 5 room types, from the entry level Mountain-Side Room (which we don't recommend) to Garden View, Deluxe Garden View, Ocean View, and Deluxe Ocean View. All rooms are 600 square feet (56 sq. M.) of interior space with either one king bed + sofa bed or two queen beds, plus a private lanai. We were upgraded to a Deluxe Ocean View Room on the 7th floor, with a lovely angled view of the ocean across the resort's formal sculpture garden:

One of our favorite aspects of any Four Seasons stay is the Four Seasons bed, with a mattress that can be customized to your sleep preference. While even the Signature mattress is more comfortable for us than virtually all other hotel mattresses, with the Signature Plush mattress topper, it's incredible. Other clients who prefer firmer mattresses consistently choose the Signature Firm mattress topper.

King bedded rooms also have a sofa bed, and this was already set up for our teen, with a welcome amenity of a Four Seasons wet bag. This came in handy when packing his swimsuit before our flight back to the mainland.

The bathroom is spacious, with double sinks, separate toilet chamber, a glass enclosed shower (regular shower head, not a rain shower, unfortunately), and soaking tub.

Suites range from the small suites, which are 840 square feet of interior space plus lanai, to large suites of 1100-1400 sq. ft. plus lanai, with two bathrooms, to residential suites with oceanfront views. We were able to view one of the three Elite 2BR Suites, which totals 2400 sq. ft. plus its spacious lanai.

Four Seasons Maui Pools, Beach, Tennis, Fitness

Four Seasons Maui's main Fountain Pool is the focal point of the resort, located between DUO Restaurant and Ferraro's. There's a large jacuzzi hot tub on each side of the pool, a favorite place for parents to relax while watching their energetic youngsters.

Close to the Fountain Pool and also by DUO Restaurant is the shallow Keiki Pool for young kids, with a cute mini water slide.

Couples have their own adults-only Serenity Pool with a swim-up bar which is just up some stairs from the Oceanfront Lawn, located on the same level as the Reception and Lobby.

A particular highlight is the wide sandy stretch of Wailea Beach in front of the hotel. We enjoyed walks there, and our son loved boogie boarding. On earlier visits, we've gone snorkeling and seen turtles, tropical fish, and even an octopus.

My husband and I enjoyed complimentary Outrigger Canoe Paddling; and unlike at Andaz Maui at Wailea, there's no resort fee at Four Seasons Maui.

Another great complimentary activity to enjoy is hula dancing:

A significant draw for us at the resort is the tennis program, run by Darin Zerbe. He's one of the best resort tennis coaches our son has had.

In case tennis isn't your game, there are plenty of other ways to keep fit on your stay. The treadmills were open air even before the pandemic, and these were never crowded during our visits.

Nearby is the games room, which our son particularly enjoyed for its pool tables and ping pong; there's also foosball.

There are also Pedego bikes available to rent, to explore the Wailea area.

Four Seasons Maui Breakfast and Dining

One of the casualties of the pandemic at many hotels and resorts has been the breakfast buffet, but fortunately, Four Seasons Maui has managed to safely adapt it. If anything, I enjoyed our breakfast experience even more this time, perhaps because the resort has limited its occupancy and as a result DUO seemed less crowded, with more attentive service.

.

There are individually wrapped items on the cold buffet that you help yourself to, such as wrapped plates of smoked salmon with cream cheese and covered yogurt parfaits, while a team member assists with your choice of fresh fruit. Similarly, there are hot buffet items that staff will serve you.

.

For eggs and pancakes, simply fill out a form to indicate your preferences, and these are freshly cooked to order. Our favorite were blueberry macadamia nut pancakes with passion fruit maple syrup.

.

As always, Four Seasons Preferred Partner guests enjoy complimentary breakfast for two guests per room, daily. FSPP guests can choose either the buffet at DUO (including the aforementioned cooked to order eggs and pancakes) or pick a la carte selections at DUO, or order room service.

DUO serves breakfast from 6-11am daily, and also serves dinner 5-8pm nightly. See our DUO Restaurant Dinner Review.

On our prior visit, we enjoyed a dinner at Ferraro's Bar E Ristorante, which serves lunch 11am-3:30pm, late lunch 3:30-5pm, and dinner 5-8pm. Another Italian option is Spago, which serves dinner nightly 5:30-8pm. We had a disappointing experience at Spago, the only thing that marred our otherwise wonderful stay. See our Review of Spago at Four Seasons Maui. Note that Spago is not staffed by the Four Seasons, and our experience there reflected this.

.

The Verdict

It's easy to see why Four Seasons Maui remains our clients' favorite Maui resort for both couples and families. Couples enjoy the spa, water sports and sailing, and the adults-only Serenity Pool, with its infinity edge overlooking Wailea Beach and the option of renting a cabana for greater privacy while lounging. Families enjoy the expansive Fountain Pool, with the Keiki Pool available for the little ones, and the complimentary Kids for All Seasons Kids' Club activities. Our teen, now too old for the kids' club, liked shooting pool and playing ping pong in the table games room. Most of all he enjoyed boogie boarding at the beach.

Highlights for us remain the excellent service everywhere except Spago, the great tennis and pickleball program headed by Darin Zerbe, the complimentary outrigger canoe paddling (during the pandemic this is a private experience, so be sure to reserve well in advance), complimentary hula lessons, and excellent breakfast and dinner at DUO.
