All UK Passengers to US Must Be COVID-19 Negative Pre-Flight

.

All UK Passengers Flying to the U.S. Must Test Negative for COVID-19 Before Their Flight, or they'll be denied boarding. The new UK COVID-19 variant, called B.1.1.7, has a number of mutations and is thought to be up to 70% more infectious. New York already got British Airways, Virgin Atlantic and Delta to require a negative COVID-19 test for the airlines' flights to New York JFK, and more recently United Airlines has also agreed to require negative COVID-19 test results for flights into Newark EWR. NYC has also stepped up enforcement of its quarantine for UK arrivals, with a $1000 fine per day for violators.

While the U.S. still has in place Trump's Presidential Proclamation that suspends the entry of foreign nationals who have visited the UK within the prior 14 days, the negative test requirement will mean that U.S. citizens and permanent residents will need to take a COVID-19 test within the 72 hours prior to departure and receive a negative result to be allowed to board their flight from the UK to any U.S. destination. The order is being signed by the CDC today, December 25, and becomes effective on December 28, 2020.
