Switzerland Tourism's New Ambassador, Tennis Star Roger Federer, Has a Sly New Video Ad with Robert DeNiro. In the spot, in which the two play themselves, Federer is pitching a film project set in beautiful Switzerland to an unimpressed DeNiro. “I don't like it,” DeNiro frowns. “You got your mountains, your ski resorts, your charming little towns, green valleys–there's no drama!” DeNiro walks over in a pair of hilarious boxers to the window, gazing out at a decidedly more bleak and less vibrant NYC scene. “I need an edge, conflict, jeopardy–Switzerland is just too perfect.”

It's not too often that destinations opt for the reverse psychology approach, but with the collective exhaustion from the drama of the COVID-19 global pandemic and the sly humor, it's more memorable than most destination promotion.

There's no definite date yet when Switzerland will reopen to Americans, although the country is making good progress vaccinating its most vulnerable citizens and is working to create an internationally recognized COVID-19 travel certificate.
