Rosewood Mayakoba Review: Deluxe Lagoon Suite

Rosewood Mayakoba Review: Deluxe Lagoon Suite

This Rosewood Mayakoba Review of a Deluxe Lagoon Suite is from a recent work trip to the Riviera Maya. Although I stayed at the Fairmont Mayakoba, I did a site inspection of the Rosewood Mayakoba, including a Deluxe Lagoon Suite, and also dined at a couple of the Rosewood Mayakoba restaurants, which I'll review in a future post.

Having loved our Rosewood London stay last year, and with many TravelSort Clients really enjoying their Rosewood Mayakoba stays, I was excited to view the resort.

TravelSort Clients receive these Virtuoso benefits at the Rosewood Mayakoba:

  • Daily Buffet breakfast, for up to two in room guests
  • $100 USD Equivalent Spa Services credit, to be utilized during stay (not combinable, no cash value if not redeemed in full)
  • Early check-in/late check-out, subject to availability

Rosewood Mayakoba Location

Rosewood Mayakoba is part of the 1600 acre Mayakoba resort that includes the Fairmont Mayakoba and Banyan Tree Mayakoba, and is located about 30 miles south of Cancun, just north of the Fairmont Mayakoba. Count on a 35-40 minute drive from Cancun Airport, without traffic.

Yet unlike the Fairmont Mayakoba, which has 400 rooms and suites, Rosewood Mayakoba has one third as many: 130 suites, with even the entry level Lagoon Studio Suite a spacious 788 square feet inside, with another 1016 square feet of exterior space. This gives the property a more private and exclusive feel to it, which is why most of my clients who are couples, and even some families who prefer a more tranquil setting and more personalized service, tend to reserve the Rosewood Mayakoba.

Deluxe Lagoon Suite, Rosewood Mayakoba

As with all the Mayakoba resorts, most of the resort is not beachfront, but all the suites that don't have a beach view do face lagoons that appeared larger than the canals at the Fairmont. Another great feature is that all the suites, even the entry level Lagoon Studio Suites, have their own plunge pool, outdoor deck and boat dock.

View from Rosewood Mayakoba Deluxe Lagoon Suite

The Deluxe Lagoon Suite is perfect for a group of three friends or a family of three, since it accommodates up to three guests, two in a king size bed in the bedroom and the third guest on a sofa bed in the living room. Here's the bedroom, with king size bed:

And here's the view from the head of the bed towards the living room, which can be closed off from the bedroom via sliding doors.

And here's the living room, with sofa bed. Conveniently for the third guest, there's a second bathroom with rain shower that is accessible from the living room area.

The master bathroom features double sinks and a large round soaking tub, as well as separate shower. I loved that it got great natural light from the large window by the soaking tub, unlike the darker bathroom at the Fairmont Mayakoba.

In keeping with the property's sustainability focus (it has received the Rainforest Alliance Certification) bath products are in reusable containers:

There's also a roof top terrace with sun loungers:

Rosewood Mayakoba Pools and Beach

While the Rosewood has one third the rooms of the Fairmont Mayakoba, is still has three pools, to Fairmont Mayakoba's 5 pools. There's the Casa del Lago Pool by the Casa del Lago Restaurant near reception, seen here at night:

Most guests' favorite pool is the Beach-front Infinity Pool by the Rosewood Mayakoba beach.

Of course, just a few steps away is the sandy beach. It seemed a bit better groomed than the Fairmont Mayakoba beach.

There's also a Spa Pool that is adults only, located on on its own island with Sense, the Rosewood Spa.

The Verdict

I enjoyed the feel of the Rosewood Mayakoba much more than the Fairmont Mayakoba: even the lower category suites are much more spacious and beautiful, have their own plunge pool, get great natural light, and have better views thanks to being close to wider lagoons. And while I didn't stay there, my experiences with the front desk and concierge staff were also more professional and I never had to wait, unlike at the Fairmont. Naturally this also comes at higher cost, but if you value higher quality surroundings, more attentive service and a more tranquil pool scene, I recommend the Rosewood Mayakoba.
