Reminder: It's the Last Day for a Citi AAdvantage Miles Rebate for Award Travel, since effective May 1, 2019, Citi AAdvantage is Cutting the 10% Mileage Rebate for Redeemed AAdvantage Awards. This has been a good perk, worth up to 10,000 AAdvantage miles per member per calendar year, which we've used every year for the past several years.
In fact, I just used it for the last time a few days ago for a JAL First Class award, bringing the effective award rate down to 72,000 AAdvantage miles, which is only a couple thousand more miles than using Alaska Mileage Plan, plus AAdvantage provides better award availability.
And since AAdvantage charges much less than British Airways Avios for long haul first class and business class, if you recently redeemed British Airways Avios for JAL First Class, Cathay Pacific First Class, Cathay Pacific Business Class or similar, you could consider redepositing your Avios award and trying to immediately rebook with AAdvantage miles, although there is the risk that the award doesn't return to inventory. So if you have a Citi AAdvantage Platinum Select card and are about to redeem for an AAdvantage award, you might want to reserve it today, April 30, 2019, so as to earn the 10% mileage rebate, up to 10,000 AAdvantage miles.
