Hawaii COVID-19 Rapid Testing: Walgreens, GoHealth, CityHealth

.

Hawaii's Strict COVID-19 Test Requirement Makes Rapid Testing via Walgreens ID Now, CityHealth and GoHealth a safer bet for many than Vault Health (see Vault Health COVID-19 Testing for Hawaii? Have a Backup Plan), which requires UPS shipment to a lab and can be delayed. That's because Hawaii continues to require a negative result from a COVID-19 test taken with one of the State of Hawaii's Travel Testing Partners prior to the passenger boarding the plane, otherwise a mandatory 10 day quarantine applies.

Here are the details for these rapid tests:

Walgreens ID Now

Locations and Appointments: Note that not all Walgreens provide the Rapid Diagnostic (ID Now Test). For example, there are no California locations or New York City locations that provide it. To check for the closest one in your area, do a search while checking only the box for the red circle, the Rapid Diagnostic Test. Major metro areas that offer it include Austin, Chicago, Columbus, Dallas, Houston, Indianapolis, Las Vegas, Miami, Phoenix, and Portland Oregon, among others. Note that these are drive through appointments, done from your car.

Test Result Time: Walgreens Rapid Diagnostic Test states that results are available in less than 24 hours, but really, the results should be available within 30 minutes or less.

Cost: With most insurance, the Walgreens testing is free to you, but Walgreens bills your medical insurance $129.

.

GoHealth Urgent Care

Locations and Appointments: GoHealth offers rapid COVID-19 testing in Arkansas, the Bay Area in California, Connecticut, Missouri, New York, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon and Washington state. Typically you'll be able to schedule an appointment online the same day or up to the day before; you can also call two days prior to schedule an appointment.

Test Result Time: It takes about 15 minutes from when your sample is taken to receive the results.

Cost: At least in NYC, with most health insurance policies the test is free; however, with United Healthcare the cost is $75 per person. Without insurance the cost is $195. Please double check with the individual GoHealth Urgent Care center, as costs may differ from NYC.

.
CityHealth Urgent Care (California)

Locations and Appointments: CityHealth offers COVID-19 testing in Dublin, Livermore, Oakland (North Field and at the airport), Sacramento, San Francisco, San Jose and El Cerrito. Go to the link above to book an appointment at your desired location.

Test Result Time: This isn't a rapid, on the spot test, but CityHealth does offer an expedited 24 hour turnaround service

Cost: The cost for the COVID-19 PCR test with expedited 24 hour turnaround time is $120 (instead of the regular $20)

If you've used the Walgreens ID Now, GoHealth Urgent Care or CityHealth Urgent Care for a rapid COVID-19 test before travel to Hawaii, what was your experience?
