Where to Stay

While we don't recommend staying too long in Tokyo or Kyoto over the summer due to the hot, humid weather, it's the perfect time to visit Hokkaido, including the Park Hyatt Niseko. Higher altitude places such as the Ritz-Carlton Nikko in the Lake Chuzenji area of Nikko can also be lovely (it's why there are still summer residences for certain foreign embassies there), although summer is a rainier season there. We do recommend trying to visit by early June and minimizing time outdoors during the hottest times of the day during Japan's sweltering summer.
