Delta Adds Boston to Hawaii Nonstop Route

Delta Air Lines has added a Boston to Hawaii nonstop flight starting 11/21/24, in time for Thanksgiving, with service until end of April 2025, which will cover spring break. Delta's daily flights will be:

Depart BOS 10:15am, Arrive HNL 4:50pm (DL438)
Depart HNL 5:20pm, Arrive BOS 8:30am the next day (DL962)

The aircraft is a 767-300ER, which has 26 flat bed seats in a 1-2-1 configuration. Currently we see some great business class fares of just $1078 each way, or $2156 roundtrip. This is 30-50% of the cost of Hawaiian Airlines' A330 business class, which is often $2181-$3566. It's being sold as First Class rather than Delta One, which makes us wonder if Delta anticipates some equipment swaps on this route. Nevertheless, in our experience, if you book a flat bed business class seat and a subsequent equipment swap results in a recliner seat, you can request reaccommodation on a different flight with flat bed seats or get a refund of your fare, given the material change in the flight product.

As usual with Delta Skypesos, it's not worth using Delta SkyMiles to book these awards unless you can't get rid of Delta miles fast enough, because the value is so low: at an award rate of 142,500 miles each way, you're only getting 0.75 cents per mile. Typically our minimum threshold for using miles is 2 cents per mile, and we prefer to redeem for international business or first class awards where we're getting 5-10 cents or more per mile spent.

Our clients' favorite Hawaii luxury resorts are the Four Seasons Lanai and the Four Seasons Hualalai on the Big Island, and for keen tennis and Pickleball players, the Four Seasons Maui at Wailea and the Mauna Kea Beach Resort (especially after it concludes its renovation in early 2025) are worth considering.
