During my stay in Jamaica, I was invited to attend Couples Sans Souci‘s 7th anniversary party. I'd walked around Couples Sans Souci earlier that day, and it was beautiful, peaceful and laid back. So while the invitation mentioned “elegant” dress and a masquerade theme, I was almost hesitant to dress up too much. I mean, this was Jamaica, so how dressed up do people get? And would anyone even be wearing a mask?

As we entered, it was a fun surprise to find out that Couples Resorts really goes all out for their anniversary parties. Here are the ladies who welcomed us and provided complimentary masks for us to don:

And the General Manager, Pierre Battaglia was dressed to the nines in an elaborate Venetian costume and mask:

While it's hard to see from my photo, the barmen serving drinks were dressed as gondoliers:

What really added to the atmosphere was live violin music by the pool:

To the left of the pool were several hot appetizer stations, including roast lamb with a choice of guava jam or mint sauce:

Inside was decorated just as beautifully, with fresh flowers, candles, hanging lights, and drinks adorned with starfruit:

There were further appetizer stations, including decadent oysters and vodka and a lion ice sculpture:

We were treated to a performance of synchronized swimming:

Guests made their way down stairs that were romantically lit with candles to the main lawn, where round tables and chairs had been set up in front of the stage. A couple of my fellow bloggers with Gail, Couples Resorts Marketing Manager:

Drinks were served in glowing glasses with different colored lights:

A live band crooned as guests made their way to the buffet stations:

And what a buffet. Ever been a bit paralyzed by bountiful choices? That was the case for me here. Here's the salad station (note an elaborately carved watermelon as the centerpiece–convinced the Thai chef at Couples Tower Isle had something to do with it!)

Seafood arranged around an ice sculpture:

And there were also a number of hot dishes as well. Ultimately, I focused on the seafood and roast pork. The seafood, especially the lobster and shrimp, was outstanding. The pork was good as well, although I regretted not getting more of the crispy skin.

Dessert was no less elaborate, with a number of different cake, pie, custard and bon bon stations. Here are just a few of them:

And the dessert plate of a fellow guest. The desserts looked a bit better than they tasted, but my favorite was the ricotta cake–moist and fragant with a hint of orange zest.

A huge highlight of the entertainment, especially for returning guests and Jamaican locals, was Jamaican singer Tami Chynn. Here's Tami and her husband Wayne Marshall with a fellow guest:

Verdict: If you have the chance to time your visit to Couples Sans Souci or one of the other Couples Resorts in Jamaica so that it coincides with the anniversary party, I highly recommend it, although you'll need to book well in advance (the resort was completely sold out for anniversary weekend). Here are Couples Resort Rates in case you want to check if it's in your budget. Unsurprisingly, the resorts are popular for destination weddings, which can also book out many of the rooms.

If you've been to Couples Sans Souci for an anniversary celebration, what was your experience?
