The Coronavirus from China Has Many Travelers Rethinking Their Travel Plans to or through Chinese airports. Here are the airline travel waiver policies that are current as of 1/28/20. As always, double check the prevailing travel waiver policy directly with the airline that issued your tickets, and contact the airline directly to change or cancel if you purchased your ticket from the airline, or contact the company or agency you purchased flights from.

Air Canada

Affected Airports: PEK, PVG

Tickets Issued On or Before: 1/28/20

Impacted Travel Dates: January 24 – February 29, 2020

New Travel Must Be: By April 15, 2020

Refund Allowed: Depends on original ticket; for non-refundable tickets, no

Air China

Affected Airports: All

Tickets Issued On or Before: 1/23/20

Impacted Travel Dates: All dates from January 1, 2020 onwards

New Travel Must Be: N/A: Free Refund

Refund Allowed: Yes

American Airlines

Affected Airports: CTU, PEK, PVG, SHA, TSN

Tickets Issued On or Before: 1/24/20

Impacted Travel Dates: January 24, 2020 – February 29, 2020

New Travel Must Be: January 24, 2020 – March 31, 2020

Refund Allowed: No, except for cancelled flights or 60+ minute delay

British Airways

Affected Airports: All China airports, including Hong Kong HKG

Tickets Issued On or Before: 1/28/20

Impacted Travel Dates: 25 January – 23 February 2020

New Travel Must Be: Within ticket validity

Refund Allowed: Yes

Cathay Pacific

Affected Airports: All Mainland China airports

Tickets Issued On or Before: 1/28/20

Impacted Travel Dates: 28 January 2020 to 31 March 2020

New Travel Must Be: By May 31, 2020

Refund Allowed: Yes, but no show passengers not eligible for cancellation/refund waiver

Delta Airlines

Affected Airports: PEK, PVG

Tickets Issued On or Before: 1/27/20

Impacted Travel Dates:  January 24 – February 29, 2020  

New Travel Must Be: By March 31, 2020

Refund Allowed: Yes, if a customer’s flight is cancelled due to this event, and no other alternate flights are acceptable

Affected Airports: All mainland China airports

Tickets Issued On or Before: 1/28/20
