The Chase Freedom will earn 5X at Walmart and Department Stores for Q4, 2017, fulfilling the “Holiday” placeholder for the Chase Freedom 5X calendar. I hope that this will include online purchases for these stores, since I can't remember the last time I bought anything from a physical department store, and I have never bought anything at a physical Walmart, although I have occasionally ordered cereal from Walmart's online presence.
You can activate your Chase Freedom 5X for Q4 2017 starting today, September 15.

Department Stores include:
- JC Penney
- Kohl's
- Macy's
- Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack
- Sears
- Barney's
- Bergdorf Goodman
- Bloomingdale's
- Dillard's
- Lord & Taylor
- Neiman Marcus
- Saks Fifth Avenue and Off 5th
- Other Department Stores on the Chase Freedom Merchant list
Note that the following do NOT earn 5X:
- Target
- Kmart
- Discount stores such as TJ Maxx
- Electronic stores
- General merchandise and variety stores
- Gift cards purchased at any locations other than the included department stores
Will Gas or Fast Food Purchases at Walmart Earn 5X?
No; the Walmart category excludes third party merchants that operate within Walmart, such as gas stations, fast food restaurants, beauty services etc. that are not Walmart branded.
Will Sam's Club Purchases Earn 5X?
No; even though Walmart owns and operates Sam's Club, Sam's Club purchases will not earn 5X.
Will International Department Stores Count for Q4 2017?
No, and you wouldn't want to use your Chase Freedom at them anyway, due to the foreign transaction fees.
