CDC Raises COVID Risk Level for Canada, Germany, Puerto Rico

The U.S. CDC Has Raised the Risk Levels for Canada, Puerto Rico, Germany, and several other destinations. Here are the changes:

Canada, Germany and Moldova have increased to Level 3, High Level of COVID-19, from their previous Level 2 designation

Switzerland, St. Lucia, Azerbaijan, Estonia, Macedonia have increased to Level 4, Very High Level of COVID-19.

The United States itself is in Level 4, Very High Level of COVID-19. As we reported in Europe Will Remove the U.S. from EU Safe Travel List, most U.S. states have rates of new COVID-19 cases per 100,000 population that are higher than those of most European countries, and by CDC metrics, every single U.S. state is in Level 4. Even so, most European countries are now Level 4, Very High (such as the UK, France, Greece, Spain and Portugal) or Level 3, High (such as Austria, Croatia, Denmark, Italy, Sweden, etc.)

The CDC thresholds are expressed in terms of total COVID-19 cases per 100K population over the past 28 days

  • Level 1 (Low): <50
  • Level 2 (Moderate): 50-99
  • Level 3 (High): 100-500
  • Level 4 (Very High): >500
