This 2019 Review of Four Seasons Maui at Wailea is part of a Hawaii trip report, including other Maui, Lanai and Oahu luxury resort stays and Hawaiian Airlines First Class.
Maui is one of my clients' favorite destinations, and the Wailea resort area is most popular, thanks to its usually calmer, more swimmable beaches, which also offer snorkeling and sometimes (see my video) dolphin and turtle sightings, or even whales in the winter months.
Four Seasons Maui at Wailea originally opened in 1990, but its latest renovation was in 2016, which included renovating all the rooms and suites as well as common areas. Michael Dell, the resort's owner, even contributed some of the new art pieces from his own collection. The resort is still fresh looking, and has the new Four Seasons beds with the customizable mattress topper.

The Verdict
Maui isn't my favorite Hawaiian island, but of the luxury resorts, my favorite is the Four Seasons Maui at Wailea. The most personalized stay is had by staying in one of the 26 Club rooms or suites, which are the only ones with access to the Club Lounge and dedicated Club Concierge services.
We were in a regular, non-Club Ocean Deluxe Room, and still had a great stay, with particular highlights the outrigger canoe paddling, with a great and friendly local guide who helped us spot dolphins and a large turtle on the ocean floor. Our son had a fantastic tennis lesson with the tennis pro, Darin Zerbe, and we would have tried to book him daily had we been there longer.
The resort doesn't have a large footprint in terms of acres, as Four Seasons Hualalai does, so during peak season it will feel crowded to many. Still, the Serenity Pool is perfect for couples to enjoy a child-free place, as well as live music in the lobby lounge later in the evening, when most kids are likely to be winding down in their rooms. Kids will have plenty of fun to keep them busy, from the plush manta ray welcome amenity and the fountain and waterfall saltwater pools to the complimentary Kids for All Seasons Kids' Club activities and the ping pong and pool tables.
In terms of dining, the breakfast buffet isn't quite as luxurious as the Four Seasons Lanai (no ahi or hamachi poke, fresh passion fruit, or bi bim bap bowls, for example) but we did have a very good Italian dinner at Ferraro's, and it was lovely that the birthday we were celebrating was recognized with a complimentary mini dessert, complete with a birthday candle.

We had a wonderful week at Maui Four Seasons Oct 15 /19. Took the Club Level option. Pricey but worth it. If you choose you could in fact avoid dining anywhere else as the servings were more than adequate to qualify as meals. Service was A+ in all respects.
