55K United MileagePlus Explorer with $50 Statement Credit

55K United MileagePlus Explorer with $50 Statement Credit

A 55,000 United MileagePlus Explorer Card offer with $50 statement credit is available as a public offer until September 2, and I've updated the Best Travel Rewards Credit Cards page with it.

Here are the details:

  • 50,000 United miles after $2000 spend in the first 3 months
  • 5000 additional United miles after adding an authorized user
  • $50 statement credit is after first purchase
  • 10,000 additional United miles after spending $25,000 on the card in a calendar year (not worth it for most, except for those with high spend–see High Spend: Which Credit Cards?)
  • 2X United miles on United purchases
  • Check your first bag free
  • Priority boarding
  • Two complimentary passes to the United Club per year
  • No foreign transaction fees
  • Annual fee waived first year, then $95

FAQ

Is it Still Worth Earning United Miles with the United Award Chart Devaluation?

It depends on your travel plans of course, but even with the United award chart devaluation it can be worth holding at least some United miles. After the United Award Chart Devaluation I'm less focused on future long haul international first class travel to Asia, Europe, etc. on Star Alliance partners using United miles, but it can be useful to have United miles for the odd domestic, South America or Hawaii award redemption.

Sure, it may cost fewer Singapore KrisFlyer miles for some of these awards, but for couples or families it can be useful to have additional United miles if you don't already hold large amounts of Singapore KrisFlyer miles or points that transfer to them (AMEX Membership Rewards points, SPG points, Ultimate Rewards points and Citi ThankYou points).

I Just Got Approved for the 55K United MileagePlus Explorer But Without the $50 Statement Credit!

Send Chase a secure message and ask to be matched to this better offer. The worst that can happen is Chase says no, and you likely stand a better chance with this offer than trying to match to the 70K Ink Plus offer from a lower offer, because otherwise the offer terms are the same: in both cases, the annual fee is waived the first year.

Can I Receive the Bonus Again If I've Had This Card Previously and Cancelled It?

Per the terms, no, if you've gotten a bonus for the United MileagePlus Explorer within the past 2 years: “This new cardmember bonus offer is not available to either (i) current cardmembers of this consumer credit card, or (ii) previous cardmembers of this consumer credit card who received a new cardmember bonus for this consumer credit card within the last 24 months.” You may be lucky and be able to get it again, but don't count on it; it's hard to get the bonus again for the exact same Chase card, if you've earned the bonus for the card within the past 2 years.

Have you gotten the 55,000 United MileagePlus Explorer Card with $50 statement credit or do you plan to get it?
