10K AMEX Bonus Points for Extended Payment, AMEX Business Platinum

Earn 10,000 bonus AMEX Membership Rewards points enrolling in the Extended Payment option for the AMEX Business Platinum, if you're targeted for this offer. I've previously received such an offer for an AMEX personal Platinum, but this is the first time I've received the offer for my AMEX Business Platinum, and I plan to take advantage of it. Here are the offer details:

  • Make sure you're targeted for the offer. If you are, go to americanexpress.com/openpayovertime253 and enter your login credentials.
  • Offer is valid until December 2, 2017. To be eligible for the 10K bonus points, you must be approved for the Extended Payment Option by this date. If you're approved after the expiration date you will not be eligible for the offer
  • Maximum 10,000 Membership Rewards points per Membership Rewards account.
FAQ

Is There a Fee to Enroll in the Extended Payment Option?

No, there is no fee to enroll.

What's the APR for This Offer?

At least with the offer sent to me, there's a 0% intro APR for 9 billing periods, but after that, it jumps to 19.24% (Prime Rate + 14.99%) and will vary based on the Prime Rate. I always pay off all my credit card bills in full each month, and I recommend you do as well. Credit card debt is so expensive that it easily negates the value of these kinds of bonuses, so if having an extended payment option means you won't pay in full each month, it's not worth taking advantage of this offer.

What's the Value of an AMEX Membership Reward Point?

I value an AMEX Membership Rewards point at roughly 2 cents per point, even though I aim to get 5 cents or more for my points redemptions. I always transfer my points to airline frequent flyer programs to redeem for first class or business class awards, as these redemptions maximize the value of a point. Just don't fall for the trap of redeeming for Hilton HHonors or Delta SkyMiles–there's a reason these programs appear first, because those currencies aren't worth much, meaning you're costing AMEX less than if you transfer to a more valuable frequent flyer currency. A few of my and my Award Booking client redemptions in the past year have been transferring AMEX Membership Rewards points to Virgin Atlantic Flying Club to book ANA First Class, transfers to Etihad Guest (before the devaluation) to book Brussels Airlines Business Class, and transfers to Aeroplan for transatlantic awards such as SWISS Business Class and SAS Business Class.

Given a 2 cents per point valuation, 10,000 AMEX Membership Rewards points are worth $200.

When Will the 10,000 Bonus Points Post to My Membership Rewards Account?

Per the terms, the bonus points will be credited within 8-12 weeks after enrollment is approved.
