Periodically I'm Asked How to Get a Guaranteed Upgrade at a Four Seasons Hotel. Four Seasons and other luxury hotels such as Cheval Blanc, Aman Resorts, Mandarin Oriental, Peninsula Hotels don't guarantee upgrades in advance, and the Virtuoso and preferred partner upgrade benefit is based on availability at time of check-in, with a few exceptions (see Virtuoso Hotels That Upgrade at Time of Booking in 2020; also select room categories for Shangri-La). That said, Four Seasons has some exclusive confirmed upgrade offers for 2020, many of them exclusive to Four Seasons Preferred Partners. Because of this, if you're planning to reserve a Four Seasons hotel or resort, it's best to reserve as a TravelSort Client or another Four Seasons Preferred Partner.

Even if there isn't a guaranteed upgrade offer available for a given Four Seasons hotel, top priority for upgrades goes to Four Seasons Preferred Partner clients who made the original booking with a FSPP. That's why it's always better to have your Preferred Partner luxury travel advisor make the original reservation, instead of making it yourself and asking your advisor to convert it to Preferred Partner, as the latter way will be lower in upgrade priority, even though it will still still have greater priority over other booking channels such as American Express Fine Hotels & Resorts, Virtuoso, booking directly through the hotel, and so forth.
