Black Hound NY is my absolute favorite NYC bakery for fancy cakes that taste just as good as they look. I have no connection to the bakery, but am simply a big fan of their cakes. While there are tons of New York bakeries churning out all kinds of pastries, cakes and especially cupcakes, I've yet to find any with anything close to Black Hound's famous Busy Bee Cake. If you love chocolate, almonds and marzipan, the description alone will probably have you craving it:
“Three layers of chocolate butter cake, two layers of almond butter cake, two layers of bittersweet chocolate mousse, and one layer of marzipan, all covered in marzipan and bittersweet chocolate and decorated with marzipan and almond petal bees.”
Even if you're not a huge chocolate fan, there are some wonderfully summery cakes as well, such as the Strawberries and Cream cake:
“Three layers of vanilla cake filled with vanilla pastry cream, whipped cream and fresh strawberries, finished with white chocolate buttercream and vanilla cake crumbs around the sides, and decorated on top with pink marzipan flowers.
Or the Poppyseed Raspberry Lemon Cake:
“Four layers of poppy seed butter cake filled with raspberry preserves and homemade lemon curd, finished with white chocolate buttercream, and decorated with poppy seeds around the sides and a web of bittersweet chocolate on top.”

As for us, we simply went to the East Village store and picked up our favorite, the Busy Bee Cake, as well as a mini Lotsaberry Tart (unfortunately the berry tarts are only available in-store, and cannot be shipped):
